Posting pics from my very first attempt at night time shooting and long exposure.

Using a Samyang 12mm F2 with a Sony A6000.

Cant't remember what settings I was using, didn't have a tripod with me so I had to rest the camera on bins and walls using my phone as a remote control.

Feel free to shit on me I know nothing about long exposure and shooting at night. This was just me giving it a try.

Had to take this one in a rush because it started raining, hence the hexagonal dot on the right. Wish I had a bit more time and my tripod to nail this one.

I was limited on where I could shoot due to not having my tripod with me. There was only the wall from where I took this shot and two bins where I could rest my camera on like in pic 1 & 3.

Whatever, don't know why you think I would lie about it. Never done it before, I knew the process of doing long exposure e.g long exposure times but that is about it.

After doing those pics I came home and watched some youtube vids about it and I could of actually done better.

I was shooting at a very high iso, some where between 2000 & 6400 with a 2 second exposure.

I should have been shooting at 100 iso with a 30 second exposure for a much cleaner, sharper image. If I get the time tonight I will go try again.

how retarded are you mate? the camera meter does the job for you and shooting at night doesn't make it any harder to find good compositions - if you're decent at composing during the day, chances are you'll find decent compositions at night as well. How fucking stupid do you have to be to think that night photography requires some special skill. Any 10 year old who is not clinically retarded and spends 10 mins to read up on the basics can get passable night shots.

Yours and everyone else's first night photo was either completely black image or a totally blowed out mess back when you didn't know a damned thing about photography and decided to snap a photo outside for the hell of it. I know about photography, i'm not a noob. That was just my first time shooting at night and my first time doing long exposures. Not my first time using a camera.

Stop being a retard. If you know how cameras work (which I do) then you can figure out how to do it.

also consider getting a really cheap ND Filter if you don't have enoug for a 200 bucks filter

If you don't want them, lower your iso, get a filter or stack the exposures (taking 5 1 sec exposures instead of 1 5 sec)

The a6000 can already be remote triggered by IR (I use my smartphone) or wlan (sony stock or 3rd party timelapse app). I figure he already has a smartphone.

I also psychologically liked using a cheap wired chinese interval trigger (connected to side usb port). A physical button has something autism calming if you otherwise sit there and wait. Plus the controls aren't bad at all.

I think I need an ND filter for some of the shots I need. What i'm trying to do is take night time photos of statues and landmarks of my town center for a calendar that I can sell for the charity I work for.

What grade ND filter should I go for? Guessing I don't need a strong one seen as it is night time.

Also is there a way to get rid of the glare from the lights?

ND filters are generally used when you are shooting in bright light, especially for video applictions in which you can't change the shutter speed. If you want an ND filter then I suggest getting an adjustable one, that way you aren't trying to guess which one to buy.

This area for example.

There is too much orange glow from the surrounding street lights. If I do a long exposure it just gets over exposed and the orange glow is worse. If I take a short exposure it is still there.
