The issue here is law-abiding citizens getting upset because their rights/hobbies/whatever-you-want-to-call-it are being unfairly restricted because of the actions of a tiny minority.
Imagine if a bunch of angry overreacting people wanted to take away your cameras, computers, phones, and tablets because of the actions of child pornographers. I'd imagine most people in that situation would be pretty upset about it. Most computer, camera, and smart phone operators are not kiddie diddlers and would rightfully be upset at having their rights restricted despite being 100% law-abiding. They would also be upset at being lumped in with the child porographers. Is it really surprising that law-abiding gun owners get upset when placed in that same situation? Especially when the evidence shows that such restrictions don't solve the problem anyway? .Restricting firearms doesn't reduce violence any more than restricting cameras or digital communications reduces kiddie porn. All either one would accomplish is pissing off those who are law-abiding.
