Just picked up myself the Nikon D3400. A friend of my who does freelance uses it and says it's a solid camera. Read some good reviews for it too. Light as a feather to boot. Anyone tried this baby out?

I've messed around with it already. Really like the functionality of it. I know it's not a really high end one, but it seems like good bang for my buck.

I tried it in a store and looking through the viewfinder was a really bad experience. Like a literal tunnel.

Already mastered that. Took Photography in college as part of my media arts program. Know the basics, including a few tips and tricks like the Sunny 16 rule. Have made some very good photos.

You’ve mastered nothing, or you wouldn’t have bought an entry-level DSLR THEN asked /p/ about it.
Here are some tips:
Buy a prime lens. I like the Nikon 50mm 1:1.8G - it’s relatively cheap in with DX format it’s about equivalent to an 80mm lens on full-frame. Great portrait lens.
Buy Photoshop and Lightroom and shoot in RAW (NEF) - learn how to edit your photos
The kit lenses that come with Nikons usually suck

I tried some of the D3X00 camera's and it is a bit of a mixed bag. They have great sensors nowadays and they are light. However the viewfinder is like looking into a small tunnel as mentioned before, I miss some external buttons as well. For longer shooting jobs I'd rather have a D7100 instead.

I also have one, got the 18-55 and 55-300 with it.

I like it, though the lack of exposure bracketing function and aperture button on the front are annoying.

Don't know enough about cameras to give a real opinion other than it just werks desu
