>>3280972You can in some cases just throw in a modern LR44, but the light meter reading will be off by a stop or two. Worse yet, it keeps changing over the battery life as the LR44's do not maintain a steady voltage like mercury batteries do. Of course, these are mechanical cameras so you do not need a battery to operate them, only to power the light meter which is optional. Once you get the hang of it, nailing the exposure in daylight conditions without any kind of meter is easy.
Another alternative are zinc-air-cells which match the mercury cells in voltage, but they have a limited life of some months during which they will drain whether you actually use the camera or not. They are also rather expensive.
