IR effect is indeed cool, especially when there are shadows involved, they give a very sharp cutoff.
Sometimes, when it comes to vegetation, you can almost imitate the Wood effect with a green or green-yellow filter. But everything else (Sky, buildings, etc.) look distinctly different with actual IR film and R72 filter.
