First film DSLR under 150€

Hey, I want to start shooting film because it looks funnier, and I don't want to take 10000 pictures in a day anymore. So I want to buy a new film camera (DSLR), I've done some research and here's the cameras I think are the best for me:

> Pentax spotmatic sp ii
Everybody seems to love it

> Praktica mtl5b
Take modern batteries and is cheap, people say it's sturdy as fuck

What would be the best option ? Also, I want one standard lens and people says that Takumar are the best m42 lenses, is that true ?

Best option might be to use gear or film general thread.

Myself, I'd suggest Ricoh XR-7 + Pentax-M 50/1.7 but its just a matter of taste. Spotmatic II + whatever Super Takumar will do the job.

It doesn't matter if 'everybody seems to love it' you are the user so you have to love it. As far as I know Praktica doesn't have the best great build quality so I wouldn't use one unless I had to. Try them both and buy the one that works the best for you.

just decide on a lense system you want to invest in, nikon, canon, minolta, m42, whatever then look for a body that offers the features you want, slr are almost all sturdy like a brick especially compared to cheap dslr.

you can get a minolta xd7 with excellent 50mm 1.7 that offers metering, aperture and shutter priority, depth of field preview, dampened mirror and all standard features, is build like a tank and allows nikon f-mount, canon fd-mount and m42 adapted lenses for like 70€

In alternative there's the Canon A-1, which was the XD-7 straight up competitor: great build quality, it loses a bit in ergonomics, but gains a Program mode on top of all the XD-7's features; it is usually sold with a 50mm f/1.8, but the 50mm f/1.4 can be found for less than 100€, moreover FD lenses are plentiful and cheap.

A few options:

Takes F mount lenses that can be used on newer cameras, very inexpensive ($100-150), has automatic shooting modes

Great optics for very little money, fantastic build quality, simple to use

>Pentax K1000
Super simple, easy to find, relatively inexpensive

>Nikon F4
More expensive than the other options but probably one of the best deals in film SLRs. Very high build quality, high level of customization. fantastic metering, handles like a DSLR, fantastic viewfinder, takes AA batteries, and guaranteed to get approving head nods from every old man photographer wherever you are.

I was in the same spot few weeks ago. Bought Yashica Mat 124 and I'm nearly done with the first film. It's abit too early to judge, but I don't think I will regret the decision. One thing to consider is TLRs are a bit bigger than SLRs, but not considerably heavier in the same time.

I second this mainly because of the price and it can be run without a battery. The light meter doesn't work without the battery but that'll just make you a better shooter in the long run.

First l must say you never had to shoot 1000 pictures a day.
I still have my Pentax MX it is manual only, and the battery is for the meter. I also have a Yashica, and a couple of 120 cameras. It is all shelf art.

Almost anything on eBay will be great. Just make sure it has that mode where it picks exposure for you, no idea what it's called or if all cameras have it. I'd put more thought into the lenses. I'd recommend a 50mm because it's the most versatile, and depending on what you want to shoot, a zoom or a wide angle, or even both. For a low budget reverse rings, extension tubes are also nice to experiment with.
