I don't fuck with infrared film anymore. It's one of the few cases where digital is more fun for me.

op here.. forgot to start the discussion. im going on a landscape workshop/trip for a week out in the deserts of southern utah. as of right now im mostly taking 35mm cameras and a dslr. im a huge fan of hp5 but i want to try a large variety of films and sfx is one of them. but i know next to nothing about this film.

Use the appropriate filter, SFX doesn't extend much in the infrared, with a 720nm filter you'll get really long exposure times, and with a 760nm probably no image at all.

Compensate for your filter. Add 6-7 stops to your normal exposure (without filter). If in doubt, overexpose. Since you're using 35mm, bracket your exposures.

SFX, and infrared film in general, is sensitive to visible light. It's also not very sensitive to infrared light either.

Here's a relatively slow picture (f2, 1/30) of that heat lamp behind an umbrella in a dark room.

Yeah. The percentage of infrared light is really small compared to the percentage of visible light.

So if you want the IR effect (white foliage, dark sky, porcelain skin), you ned to cut off visible light with a filter. Otherwise, the infrared exposure ad its look will get drowned/washed out by the visible light exposure.

Yeah, it’s really good.

It matches the Efke in IR reach, and since the latter is gone, it’s the single film remaining with such deep IR sensitivity.

6 stops of exposure compensation is a good place to start with a 720nm filter, maybe 7 for even stronger IR effect.

If you shoot it normally (no IR filter), I think shit at 100 or 200 it’s better, too thin negatives if you shoot at 400.

Just search ebay and amazon for "R72" or "720nm" or "infrared" filter.
Also put in next to that your filter size. If you can't find the exact filter size, you can get a stepup ring and get the filter in the next available size.

I know regular cameras are able to detect infrared light, but is there a way to make them receive ONLY these wavelenghts?

Yes, yes, yes.
Cheap chinese IR pass filters are cheap.
You can use one in normal unmodified digital camera to take IR pics, exposure time is in seconds range (in sunlight) depending.

A modded digital camera (internal IR filter removed) can be used to shoot IR handheld.

Results depend of filters and processing used.

(Modded p&s, yellow filter, color channels not flipped)
