>>3297122>OP asks thoughts on the most expensive photographs in the worldThis includes prices, quallity of the work, alternate markets, transactions and all activities related to it. including pop up fairs, festivals, etc.
>a video is posted explaining reasons why this is and why it's not because the art is good, but because of how the fine art market worksThe video talks about A MARKET, I pointed that the market goes beyond galleries and auctions and how different markets behave in a different way. Gave an example of prices on the painting market and how it relates to photography prices.
Also, the fact that some work has inserted itself in the market does not mean that everything is a clever plot, works in galleries can and are often good. Have you actually worked for/with galleries? sold through them, auctioned anything? How often do you actually go to galleries to look at photography? people focus too much on the high end and bloated prices, but the gallery market still exist at lower levels.
>anon goes on a tangent about what photographers "should" focus on when it's not only preaching to the choir but doesn't really contradict what's been said alreadySo an idea that actually adds to the discussion is a tangent and I guess missing the point? so much for being constructive. Its a fact that galleries have a hard time selling photography, so yeah you """SHOULD""" put your effort somewhere else. And if it comes it comes.
Hardly preaching to the choir when /p/ is mostly comprised of amateurs, weekend shooters or (I hope) professionals from the commercial world that have had little contact with the art world. The fact we're discusdiscussing art prices is indicative of that
And to your final point. Arguments not necessarily need to contradict anything. In this case I'm trying to provide a different angle on the matter from my personal experience. But if you want contradiction: all expensive art is good. Maybe a more simple idea will be easier to undestand.
