>>3300133>Is it even possible to get great pictures of northern lights with an APS-C sensorOf course, why wouldn't it be?
>or do you pretty much need to increase your budget and go for a full frame sensor camera? The only difference with full frame is potential lower iso and potentially bigger sensor, neither are absolutes
Better use of your money would be getting to a better location and further north
>>3300164I never carry less than 3 batteries because that's a full day of shooting, but everyone is different. I also carry a charging pack the size of my phone now too which helps. Either way batteries are pennies so I'd rather have them and not need them
>>3300204>I'm trying to take a decent self-portrait with my DSLR and I can't seem to make it natural. My portrait work is otherwise OK. Is there some trick to self-portraiture, or am I a poor model? You probably just don't like your face. Pretty natural and common to think something isn't right with selfies through a combination of factors
Failing that, watch a youtube vid or two on facial expressions and modelling. Generally speaking you want to capture the moment after you laugh and your face is smiling but relaxed- Peter Hurley talks about that somewhere
>>3300578>How can I stop taking shitty photos? You can't. You just take less of them as you get better but you'll always take shit photos.
Sounds more like your problem is you're not getting criticism and feedback or you're not experienced enough to know which of your shots are good.
Either way keep shooting and keep looking at other peoples work on the same subjects/genres and compare and adjust to get better
>>3300614Depends what you're trying/failing to get out of insta. If all you want is feedback, criticism, views etc then Flickr is as good as anywhere else
