What is /p/ favorite 35mm scanner ?

Hello boys, I've got an old Coolscan III (with SCSI port...) that I inherited from my grandpa, but I don't have the SCSI adapter to make it works, maybe it's on my grandpa's PC so maybe I can make it works, but IF there is no more adapter on the PC, should i buy a SCSI card or should I just buy a new scanner ? What would it be ?

Get the SCSI adapter and VueScan software. That scanner will do better than any flatbed on 35mm regardless of dpi ratings. (I honestly don't know how people tolerate flatbeds for 35mm or 120.)

Properly done DSLR "scans" of film can actually match Imacons and drum scanners, but it's a bit of work to get to that level.

Other than that your options or higher resolution old scanners or the Plustek dedicated 35mm scanners. Or if you have big bucks an Imacon.

Recommend a scanner? No, you can't really recommend anything. Really, a DSLR (or mirrorless, either way) with a macro lens is quite a bit better than most scanners, whether they're general-purpose or film. If you already have an interchangable-lens digital camera, buy a macro lens and some kind of light table, it'll get you higher wuality at a lower price than a scanner. If you don't have such a camera, get one. A D3300 or something with a macro lens and a tripod is still going to be better than any scanner you could get for the same money. And it's useful for taking photos itself.

Having to set everything up every time you wanna scan is annoying as fuck. Oh you didn't have everything perfectly aligned? too bad. Negatives aren't perfectly flat? Have fun with that distortion. You wanna scan colour negs? Have fucking fun editing that shit so the white balance is correct. Oh and make sure there's no reflection from other light sauces, may as well DSLR scan in the dark. Also forgot that absolute no matter what lens you use you WILL have distortion from the lens. Did I mention having to set up a scan rig with a tripod EVERY SINGLE TIME just to scan? Seriously DSLR scanning to too much hassle for everyday use.

Or with that money you can get a Plustek for 35mm and still have enough money for a decent flatbed (if you shoot MF that is)

Many of these problems could have been solved if someone started selling slide copier tubes with adjustable length.
People use step-up and step-down adapters right now to make the use of Nikons es-1. I don't know why Youngnuo or some other chinese manufacturer hasn't made a cheap copy with adjustable length yet.
