X100t has a stop faster lens and an OVF/EVF. Main reason for picking the X70 would be if you want it to be small enough to stuff into a smaller pocket such as in trousers. Also it has a flippy screen so that might be really important to some people.

The X70 was released as a much, much cheaper alternative to the X100T, they were never supposed to be compared. What happened is that Fuji discontinued the X70 really quickly thanks to poor sales and it reached meme status thanks to e-celebs like Mattias Burling and other street photographers propping it up. It's a shame that it's a meme now and thus overpriced.

I recently got a Panasonic Lumix TZ70 (ZS70 in the US).
I know it's an amature focused camera and older now but I thought it'd be a good pickup as a daily driver, you know?

Cheap, Light, EVF (Higher quality than the 3" display came as a surprise to me but I like it), big-ass pixels. I don't think I made too bad a choice.
I've heard the battery life isn't so incredible but I doubt that's going to be a critical problem much.

They're not really that small compared to 1" fixed lens cameras once you put a lens on them, battery life is poor, and the EVF choices are either bad or add-on (making the camera even bigger). They at least all have PD AF, high frame rate video, and the newer models have very fast burst shooting.

The AW1 is the most appealing option being waterproof, smaller than a fixed lens compact in a dive case and more convenient.

The iPhone X is far better than any modern point and shoot. Small sensor, yes, but in terms of portability, how good the photo looks before even editing, and ease of use, the iPhone X DESTROYS any point and shoot it touches.

You don't know what you're talking about. Compare iPhone X images to anything taken with a Ricoh GR II or a Fuji X100F and you can see the immense gap in quality and low light performance. Especially when viewed at full quality unlike on Instagram where every image is compressed down to 1mp. Typical Applefag being dense as always.

What is your definition of "point and shoot"? Because I can dig up dozens of prosumer "point and shoots" which are now very cheap on the used market and take a dump on the iPhone X image quality. Just because there are cheap and shitty purple Nikon p&s for $40 in your local drug store doesn't mean they weren't making point and shoots for pros since day one.

The Lumix LX line is really good. I used to use an LX7 and it worked great for what I wanted it to do. Fast f1.4 lens and lots of pro features built in. The LX100 looks like the business though I've never owned one.

I think the problem is that they aren't much cheaper than a mirrorless on sale. I know you can find them for less than that, but it's all just pseudo-vintage wank at this point. Maybe if they started coming with desk tripods and being HD video platforms with mic ports and wifi integration, they'd be more interesting.

An LX100 is technically a "point and shoot" and has most of that. So does a Fujifilm X30, it has a mic port and decent enough 1080p video. Also the Canon Powershot G16 has a lot of those features too.

How is looking back at prosumer point and shoots from 2012-2014, around the same time as the much memed A6000, "vintage wankery"? They're all super affordable now and very useful. People are memeing film compact cameras but digital ones aren't trendy to meme yet I guess.

Most of the ones posted here have that retrofuture look that all the hot new mirrorless cameras are going for. I'm not shitting on them, just musing that they aren't reaching that target market or doing anything especially nifty. I could see a big boom in affordable compacts when the next big sensor leap happens and we get hand-me-down 4k and ui improvements (that most cameras still don't have).

The point is that they're smaller, hence the name (unless you're a yank that calls all compacts point and shoots). I could've gotten a FF DSLR for the same price as my RX100 IV but I didn't, because I wanted something I could easily slip in a pocket.

I only recently learned that there was a Contax TVS Digital

It was shat on for being an overpriced ($899 USD in 2004) and mediocre performing camera but it's caught enough of the meme wave from contax film p/s cameras that it sells for hundreds of dollars on ebay.

Underrated, AF works about as well as a 7D, and surprisingly good for C-AF, even in bad light.

MF controls are a useless afterthought, but you can generally count on the AF working like you want as long as there's enough light to read.

DMC-LX7, the Leica f1.4 lens plus portability are hard to beat. The Fuji X10 has bad AF and an almost useless viewfinder since it's just a piece of glass you look through. The X20 and X30 have decent enough hybrid and electronic viewfinders

I kicked myself, I saw a low starting auction for an LX7 with the second gen Panasonic external viewfinder (worth a ton on its own) and thought it would sell for a lot of money. Turned out ONE person bid and snapped it up for a song.

I shoot a Fuji Tiara for a compact.

Nice and small, though it won’t remember that I turned the flash off between uses. Has some vignetting too, but it actually looks kinda cool.

Something from the Fuji X100 series or the Fuji X70 if you can find one. Fuji has another compact camera coming on July 5th so just wait and see how that looks. It's rumoured to be targeted at budget oriented crowd like the X-T100 was.

If your budget is super low and you can't wait I recommend getting a used Fuji X20 or X30 off ebay, they're still very capable. Fuji X10 doesn't hold up in 2018.

I use an Olympus XA2 and it's fine as a stealthy point and shoot film camera. I have the flash unit but I don't use it, it adds unnecessary size to the camera.

The shutter is almost completely silent and it looks unusual enough in modern day that no one associates it with a camera, or if they do you already have the shot by then.

Honestly I'd advise against spending a ton on a film point and shoot. Get the cheapest one you can find because the costs of film & development add up really fast.

This is the worst compact

Retro styling but doesn't work like an old camera. SLR sized body but has a pinkie nail sensor, with an impractical lug placement too.

Whoever farted this idea out should be fired.

True, it was designed as a modern day tribute to the Pentax MX line with the brass top and bottom. Pentax even marketed it as the brass would wear away as you use the camera so every owner would have a unique looking MX-1 after a while.

It's definitely not SLR sized. See pic related, it's closer to a Ricoh GR but much more thicc. Still a compact.
And I don't necessarily see a small sensor as a bad thing, if you look at the images it puts out they're very unique looking due to the crazy rendering engine. I think small sensor compacts will come back in style one day like this faggot wrote about. >>3302411 maybe once people become nostalgic for the 2000s instead of the 90s.

It's the same 1" 20mp sensor but they kept improving the lens from f1.8-f4.9 to an f1.8-2.8 over time. If anything the new RX100 VI is a step backwards to a slower lens with a much longer zoom distance. I don't think the trade-off is worth it but I don't tend to zoom much. It's still impressive considering the size hasn't changed.

Actually the Mark I wasn't BSI and only the IV, V, and VI are Stacked. That results in a bit less than a stop better noise performance between the I and IV+ and slightly better dynamic range especially at high ISOs.

I just ordered an x100t as my walk around camera. My main camera is a D750, but it's my workhorse and with each passing day it's becoming more invaluable due to the amount of work coming in.

I haven't been this excited in a very long time, it should be here Tuesday. Is my excitement well warranted? It's going to be my go everywhere with me camera

Thanks man! I've had handful of film Rangefinders I loved shooting with, but getting it developed was always a pain in the ass, and I had no control over how the picture turned out.

Are there any compact cameras comparable to the Sony RX100 in feature set. I have an old DSLR and am looking for something to vacation with for photos and videos. I'm thinking of grabbing an old model of the RX100 off of craigslist. Honestly I don't know much about buying secondhand cameras though.

Also the LX10 if you wanted something even smaller, ZS(TZ)100/200 if you wanted more focal range. None of these have EVFs though.

For Canon you have the G7 X and G9 X (both also have a newer Mark II model), the 9s having a smaller zoom range and slower aperture but being slightly smaller. Those also have no EVF, there is the G5 X which has one and the lens from the G7 but is larger.

They require being converted first, but it isn‘t an issue.
