They're all severely underexposed with the exception of one that's over exposed and blown out, and with zero detail in the shadows and he's already got huge amounts of grain at iso100. Processing and bracketing are large parts of light trails but not shooting at f22 is probably a better place to start. Composites, ND Filters, lower aperture and time of day are all things that would've helped his shots

It's just inexperience and comes with learning exposure and composition from shooting different styles. Pic related- poorly exposed from my very early photography days when I loved light trails but didn't really know what I was doing and ended up with the same mistakes as OP

Really what does all that mess in the bottom right of the frame add to the picture and that grey building on the bottom left? Nothing! And what's with the over saturation on the red starbursts. They look like they just dropped in out of a packet of corn flakes. You've salvaged every last scrap of detail you possibly could because "muh dynamic range" but all it does is flatten the image and scatter distractions so liberally it looks like a pizza.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending OP his picture is shit too but he looks like a novice at the game, you are pretending to be some kind of expert but your processing is totally ham-fisted. Which is a shame, with a little intelligence it could have been a nice picture.

On a related note to noise, and exposure, I bought an intervalometer, but the Chinese fucks that mailed it sent the wrong cable. Does anyone know if I can just buy a different cable, or do these things have firmware that only allow them to work with certain cameras? I wouldn't mind redoing these shots with some slightly better equipment, and a different lens.

Perhaps if you spent as long reading the post as you did being pretentious and edgy you'd catch that that's the point I was going for. It's a terrible shot for all the reasons you mentioned and more, as are OPs

With correct exposure, time of day, filters and more you avoid a lot of those mistakes
