The reason people going back to film is that caused by the camera advancement. Today's cameras are so advanced that the colors we see is captured perfectly. We are so used to see color correct pictures and that's why filters app exists. Instagram. Vsco. Pixlr. Snapseed. The lists goes on. But then we tired of digital filters as well, so people going back using the analogue means. There's where polaroids get back the fame, as well as lomos and film cameras. Truth is, the hype isn't caused by purists.
And right, VSCO will never emulate it, at least perfectly.
But I don't see why the hate. VSCO isn't meant for proffesionals nor purists, aka it's a gimmick. Mainly it's used for instagram-as a marketing makeup.
If editing is a treason to purists then so are photoshop, lightroom, affinity and so. Why lightroom is called 'editing' while it uses the same presets as VSCO anyway in the end?
