I lost my whole interesting in photography. Landscape became boring; Street became awful; portraits are just avoidable...
How can I get my motivation back? what do you do when you see yourself in this situation?

Motivation is a meme. Either you push through by forcing yourself to keep doing photography until it becomes a daily habit or you do something else for a while. If photography isn't your day job then there's no shame in picking up another hobby for a while. Try cooking or woodworking or anything you want.

I strongly believe that if you do something every day for 3 to 4 weeks it'll become a habit and you'll be uncomfortable not doing it. Waiting for motivation is pointless, it'll never come along. Motivation is through habit, not sudden spurts out of nowhere.

Consume the work of famous photographers. Looking through a photo book can be a very visceral way of experiencing the vision that other photographers had to share. I find that I can often look at shooting with a fresh eye after consuming inspiring works.

You probably just need to be inspired. With inspiration, comes motivation to build on that inspiration. Shooting without inspiration is not usually very useful imo, so focus on getting inspired and everything else will follow.

Get off photography forums/blogs/youtube channels etc. All they do is tell you that you are not good enough but if you buy this camera you will be a little bit better. They are cancer!

Get outside a bit, leave your camera behind. Eventually you start to see things where you find your self thinking "shit, I wish I had a camera with me." After a few of those you'll know that it is time to pick your camera up again.

But the internet echo chamber is a shit place if you're low on motivation.

Instead of trying to take the best photos you can, try and take the worst photo you can, you will be surprised of the results. I burnt out early in my career and this is what I did for I month and it was a great exercise that really freed up the process, try it.

Sitting around waiting for "motivation" out of nowhere is the meme he's talking about, forcing yourself to do things until it becomes routine habit is definitely more productive. Look at people who get the "motivation" to go to the gym, go twice, then never again. If you force yourself to go for a month even when you don't feel like it it becomes part of your routine and you're not as likely to quit.

The people who need to force themselves to go to the gym probably need to go for a reason. There's no reason to take photos. And if you take a camera how do you motivate someone to even take the photo. Let's say you do street photography, I don't think by just walking my regular route I'll get an interesting shot, you might need to seek those out. Without the motivation to do that you're just carrying a camera for no reason.

If you watch any documentary of any photographer, street or otherwise, they do photography daily until they have tens of thousands of images. Watch the documentary "Everybody Street", almost all of the photographers interviewed have full rooms dedicated to storing their negatives and prints. Do you think they got that vast amount of work shitposting online and whining about having no motivation?

To your complaint about location, a photographer like Daido Moriyama has taken his photos in ONE city mostly and makes it fresh every time. Those photographers became good because they took photos daily. They found ways to creatively make their environment work for them, even if it's the same places over and over. You just sound like a born quitter. You've given up before you've even tried. Nobody needs to do anything except sleep, eat or drink but if it's important to you, you'll make it a habit to do it.

they weren't born with high levels of motivation you aspie, they started doing photography and never stopped doing it. If you listen to any of them talk about their craft they don't talk about sudden miraculous spurts of motivation out of nowhere, they go out and take photos because it's part of their life due to well-worn habit, rain or shine they'll do it.

They're not motivated by some innate inner drive to photograph things. They do it out of habit. I spent most of my high school years wanting to be a writer waiting around for inspiration and motivation to hit me. It never hits anybody like that. Read any biography of any successful writer, they made a goal like write 5 pages every day even if every part of them hated it and eventually it became a habit they couldn't break. It wasn't out of some otherworldly motivation.

This is something that occurs across most creative or motivated successful people. By repetition and habit forming actions you eventually never need to wait for "inspiration" or "motivation" since you're already inclined to do what you need to do. I can only guess you're young and think one day you'll wake up with the "motivation" to do things. It's never gonna happen unless you make it happen.

The problem is you think there is an end-game to this. You talk about photographers who have names, you talk about successful writers. What if I don't want that success? What if I just pick something up as a hobby and I get bored. I wanted to do this for fun I don't need to force myself to keep doing something in the hopes I start liking it again.

There are millions of people out there right now into photography who will die and never become "successful". I'm probably one of them but I still go out because it's just what I do now. It's part of my life.

If you want to be passive and not give too much of a fuck about photography or any other hobby then sure, go do something else and accomplish nothing particularly impressive at that too. Just don't expect some motivation to sweep you off your feet one day and suddenly you start creating something great. It won't happen. If you want to be truly good at anything you need to keep doing it even when it isn't "fun" for a while.

I've felt like this ever since I quit shooting professionally. I was never good at coming up with ideas or wandering around looking for a good shot, what I was good at was delivering great photos that met a client or editor's specific needs. I've been totally lost ever since I went back to being an amateur, and pretty much never pick up my camera except for the occasional snapshit to throw on social media/other 4chan boards or on the rare occasion somebody asks me to shoot something for them.

Indulge yourself in a different hobby for a bit. I started getting bored of photography because I was shooting film only and was in and out of jobs at the time, I couldn't justify developing a new roll every week. I focused on fixing my car instead, and when I got a job again started focusing more on the car.
After a while I wanted to do more photography so I bought a MFT mirrorless. I was never really good at photography but I'm definitely ready to begin improving my composition and editing skills, especially now that I have new digital gear.

Gee I wonder why. Could be they don't give up when things get hard or they're not enjoyable for a while. Those are the breaks in life, sometimes things aren't fun or they're hard work. Sometimes depression, illness or heartbreak get in the way. Either give up or persevere to the other end.

Nope. If people want to quit they're free to do so. OP asked for advice on how to get "motivation" back when people are in this situation, not for advice on how to be an optimal pussified quitter.

seeing photography in such narrow terms is your problem. Get some theory, build a concept, and develop a language around your practice. Once you have some foundational principles that you can latch onto, and build around what you want to achieve, you will have no problem with ideas, only problems with time and money.
