Newbie here.
What's the most popular lens thread or if it matters? I just got a lens for camera and it happens to be 58mm thread.
What's the most popular lens thread size? Does it matter?

I guess you got a Canon 18-55mm as a kit lens that has a 58mm thread size, but even other 18-55mm lenses from other brands use a different filter size, so there is no one-size-fits-all thread size.
Filter adapters (e.g. 58-67MM) exist.

Probably around the 50s since most kit lenses start there

Filters (ND, CPF, whatever) become exponantially more expensive (the good ones anyway, I'm looking at you Hoya) as their (thread) size increases.

That's the only reason I can think of, why thread size would matter, e.g. when choosing between two lenses, all things equal except thread size.

Yeah most of my filters are 77mm and l use stepping rings. The smaller filters came with camera kits l bought used for the lenses. Then l have my Cokin system.

You should probably use a filter holder like Cokin anyway (unless you only use one or two filters). Then all you need to worry about is step-up rings.

Yeah I bought a really cheap wide angle + macro lens for my smartphone and been playing around with it. Works alright. Wide angle isn't as wide as I thought but it does work and without distortion.

Don't know much about photography and cameras but I find it strange that the wide angle lens needs the macro lens to work. Although macro can work by itself.

The outside facing lens is 58mm thread and the inside facing lens is 37mm thread, and I was planning on getting a cheap 58mm thread CPL filter. I read it's better to step-up than to step-down because there could be black borders on the outside of the image.
