Fucking magic because I'm extra sceptical about anything below 2 microns. Anything below 5 microns really hardly gets quality.

It's only meant for low sensor sizes to increase quantum efficiency for greater light collection and thusly battle with noise. It literally bumps quantum efficiency from around 40% to 70% and upwards.
I don't know why that would be needed for APS-C considering its size.

It's a tech that allowed D850 and A7iii / A7Riii a bump in image quality compared to their predecessors.

Nikon and Sony sees the value in it.
It's just Panasonic/Olympus/Fujifilm who refuse to invest more money into their mounts.

Hold on, this is confusing me.

I thought the Bayer filter arrays were arranged so the entire array of Red/Blue/Greenx2 blocks count as 1 pixel.

If you change that arrangement into 16 pixels, how can it remain a Bayer colour filter anymore?
Isn't it technically a new type of colour filter?

Well that's why Sony calls it "Quad Bayer". On a 4x4 scale it's pratically the same arrangement as 2x2 Bayer. It's cleverly done so as to yield higher resolution when there's enough light, like during daytime, otherwise simply adds pixels together.

Nope, one colour over each pixel
Then they compare values next to each other to find a "true" colour.

This is why you get rank colour bleeding and wormy details on Fuji. And this is why sharpening is necessary on CMOS.
