The AF is sluggish compared to the f/1.8. Also there is diminishing returns at f/3.5, where the lens is the sharpest. So I'll stick with the cheaper and lighter lens. Oh, and the f/1.4 IS exist.

AMAZING lens but the AF is a bit sluggish, I've moved on to the 24-35 f/2 since I loved the concept so much and imho the 24-35 is better: you lose a lot of long end, but having more wide angle is so much more important in an all rounder imho.

It's a pretty mediocre lens. Most people moved on to Sigma's 85 1.4 because the AF is ages better and you lose just a bit of light.

Can you do the math? Or you want me to help you? Most crops are 1.5x, Canon crop is 1.6x.
So this means that 18mm are actually 27 to 28mm, which are A LOT tighter than 24mm.

I'd expect people to know the bare minimum before opening their digital mouth, but at least now you know something more, you're welcome.

That is not the 300mm Canon L f/2.8, 90mm Sony f/2.8 Macro, 50mm Sony Zeiss f/1.4 or Sigma Art 85mm f/1.4.

It also is not the Sony 70-200 or 16-35mm GM f/2.8 or Canon 200-400 f/4 or Sigma 24-35mm F2 or any other of the zoom lens candidates.

It is only one of the best APS-C lenses, but it is no match for the great FF lenses.

Try using the APSC lens on FF?
OP said the 18-35 is the best lens, I said I liked it, but I prefer the 24-35 for the extra wide range. (It also has a much faster AF)

So, what I obviously mean, is that I like the FF version of this lens more. also APSC on reflex cameras is really not relevant anymore (except for video and sports oriented models) given how every producer is throwing full frame sensors at you like they're free.
Do you get it?

As for exposure value, I don’t know about that, but I do know that with a higher resolution sensor, there is more of a demand for a higher shutter speed to get sharp handheld photos, so it wouldn’t hurt to think that the exposure value of a fast lens is less than what it would be on a bigger, lower pixel density sensor.

they guy implied the aperture changes but that's relative to light entering the lens which has not changed as that's a physical property of the lens

I'm rather new to photography and the nikon af-s dx 35mm 1.8 is the only lens I use anyways, I think this is a nice upgrade

It's an amazing lens, one of the best lenses of the decade for sure. I just with it had a 24mm wide end, but I guess it's a tradeoff for having a longer tele end.

The only downside to the lens is the weird filter diameter and that the AF sometimes is slower than you'd expect, I've had a low keeper ratio with a 7d in the dark, while the 24-35 on a 5d2 just gets it right much more often.

Metabones adapters will allow you to auto focus. Mirror less cameras also have peaking so the auto focus isn't a big deal. Where as DSLRs can't into manual lenses

Well if you're just doing portraits but the f1.2 is unreliable when shooting video even with dual pixel af because of the heavy lens elements. Also it doesn't have IS which is why a lot people prefer to just buy f1.4 II IS.

Nikon literally designed a camera specifically for this and it does it better than any camera on the market, ever. You can natively use Nikon glass all the way back to 1959, even the holy grail Leica needs an adapter to do that.

It still has a slow AF though compared to other ART lenses, I noticed my "keepers" ratio went up drastically when I moved from a 7d+18-35 to a 5d2 with 24-35.
