The truth is that you have to stop thinking and let your gut tell you what to photograph. If I had to guess, it sounds like you're overly thinking, slowly placing a composition along the Rule of Thirds, agonising over if it looks good or not before pressing the shutter THEN chimping, staring at what you've just taken.
Stop that. Trust your instincts and take shots then don't even review how they look. Keep shooting, don't chimp. Always have your camera in your hand ready to fire. If you're slow, practice in your garden or house until you can draw the camera up as fast as a cowboy drawing his gun. Seize moments the second they jump out at you.
Once you get home you'll notice that your photos are a lot better and more YOUR vision because they came from your gut. Trust me on that.
