>>33365321. What’s been your experience with Leica cameras?
I own a Minilux and another point and shoot I forgot the name of. I used to own a Leicaflex. I have never shot M-mount, but would like to.
2. For those of you who’ve owned one, did the camera impact your photos or your experience of taking photos?
The Minilux has been my go-to travel camera and it goes in my pocket very easily any day of the week. It has been a very liberating purchase. The 40mm 2.4 Summarit is stellar.
The other two cameras didn't have much of an impact on me, but I will say that the Leicaflex is probably the best built 35mm camera I have ever handled and exceeded my classic Nikons, I ultimately sold it because R-Mount wasn't doing it for me with the lenses compatible with the 'Flex. AIS Nikkors and Zuikos were better performers.
3. What’s one thing people should know about owning and using a Leica?
The quality is there - but ultimately it's limited by 35mm format. You will never achieve the results you'd get from a Hasselblad, which nowadays costs less money.
4. What was the buying experience like? Was it worth the (presumed) investment?
I purchased the Minilux for £125, the Leicaflex for £60 and the other pointy shooty (not a real Leica) for £20. I sold the Flex for £125 and I expect to make good returns if I come to sell either of the point and shoots.
My advice: Don't pay market prices for anything, just keep your eye on a handful of models, take care of them and sell them on if you don't enjoy.
