First time attempt at any sort of astrophotography. Came out midly satisified with it.

Shot out my back garden in the suburbs outside a city. Did a bit of editing in LR to the whitebalance to try get rid of the light pollution.

C&C please like I said it was my first go at it and I don't know what to look for to improve.

5 years old (at the time) Pentax K-30 with the kit 55-300 and janky astrotracer on a janky chinkshit plastic tripod in my back yard.
There is only so much focusing can go with a cheap lens but try finding a bright one, magnify on screen and focus manually. The camera is the least thing in astro, good equipment, good tracking and in the case of starscape-landscapes good composition and compositing the foreground and the background (sky) makes the image satisfactory. Yours is neither of them, but is a start and now you know which way to go for improvement.
So next time try to focus manually and find a good composition, otherwise get at least a good 300mm prime and a good tracking solution.

whoops, I posted the Tamron 70-200 one. Let me find the kit lens one...
found it, you can see even a cheap kit tele is capable of getting some details. Get a prime though, zooms are inherently bad for capturing minute details.

Yes, but you will need good tracking like a Staradventurer or SA mini.
For wider skies try 135mm, 70mm and 50mm primes, f/2.8 at least

Okay first test. I don't think the infinite marker on the lens is completely accurate.
Somebody said to use iso 6400 with a 30 second exposure but it just completely clipped absolutely all information.

Seems a good start, try processing in PS to bring out the details, there are tutorials on YT.
Start with levels to “stretch” the spike of information in the histogram, don’t worry for the stars clipping right away.

Tried this again. When I was getting focus the Star would go from white to red, red when it was out of focus and white when in focus.

I did some rough levels, it pulled out a bit more information, I think.
