And consider the slightly higher price as the price for not having to switch or maintain multiple systems.
Modern high end zooms (key word: high end) are excellent lenses. They might not be as good as a prime, but you'd have to see images side by side to pick out the differences. Mid range telephotos like the 70-300 G (and equivalents) tend to be pretty good lenses for the price too, certainly not something an amateur should be turning their noses up at. Of course the Sony 70-300 is quite a bit more expensive than competing options.
