What do I do when I have a photo diary style but my life is boring as shit, and only gets interesting every 3 months or so?

I can't even get commercial work but there's nothing interesting near me to cover etc.

There's no easy advice for this. All I can say is "stop being boring". If you sit inside doing nothing all day start going out and doing things with your camera in hand. Look for local events and go even if it seems kinda boring to you. I started turning up to all sorts of dumb shit.

Pic related, I went to a "tattie run" where people run with bags of potatoes around their necks. It was free to attend and I got some really nice shots there.

Also, stop relying on other people to make your life interesting and learn how to be comfortable going to things on your own. Your photography will be better for it.

lies. Look up works like Heikki Kaskis "Tranquility" that were made specifically in places where nothing happens. You are either not a good enough photographer to capture them or fail to find scenes. Everything is interesting, but it's up to you.

Of course but you can only make the suburbs interesting for so long, everyone has chain restaurants etc. I think I just need better/more interesting friends but the suburbs make it so it makes an hour to meet up with anyone just to loiter in a wendy's.

You can only make the lens so interesting be for the subject needs to change but idk how?

It's this weird sprawl and social isolation and just boring stiff 9-5 people, and I don't find take pictures of Walgreens and urgent car centers interesting and I doubt anyone would as well

Kaskis work has a calmness combined with a subtle energy that few others achieve. The difference between his snapshits and your pictures is that he actually knows how to work with them instead of posting them on the internet to gain some likes.

It's up to you really, start doing things or planning trips. Don't wait around for better friends, just go. Ultimately your mentality matters a lot, if you're defeatist then you won't see any opportunities or have any ideas.

I hear ya...its an incredibly nepotistic field. Its almost impossible to get a gig doing "cool stuff photography" i.e. Nat Geo type stuff, etc. Especially now-a-days if you're a straight white male... im in the cinematography end of it too and its pretty much exclusively Jewish people rank and file.

you have to accept that your photos are gonna in mundane surroundings most of the time. you can take interesting photos in them but when you've spent a significant amount of time in a place you can become less observant (at least personally).

it's not easy. people are gonna post classic photographers whose work has become more interesting as time passes. old photos have an inherently interesting quality about them.
