I think I've devised the perfect, indefeatable watermark process. I don't believe that there is any possible way to remove this mark with any combination of tools available and still have anything even remotely usable as a stolen image. Even if someone could manage to destroy a significant portion of it, a tiny portion of it is still going to be unique enough that the master QR code will still match up enough to prove ownership. It also has the benefit of being unobtrusive enough, due to the "randomness" of the pattern versus human pattern perception, that the image can still be sampled for purchase without any obnoxious lettering interfering with getting a "sense" of the composition.
