and sony have 3 new bodies to be released at photokina.

The problem is that ES works as follows:

1) the pixels need to be resetted for the new exposure to begin. The resetting starts from top/bottom of the sensor

2) from the resetting of a pixel, the pixel needs to be read after the shutter speed time has passed (e.g. 1/32000s later)

So the exposure time is in between resetting and reading. Typically, these are done a row at a time with electronic shutter. Hence, if the readout (or resetting) speed is slow, moving objects will get rolling shutter effect.

2 new crop bodies, one high end one entry level. One new ff body that is easy af to guess.

Global electronic shutter has been a bit of a golden goose in the industry, and now sony have the patent on a method to do it, every other sensor fab plant is a bit fucked.

Unless my math is wrong that's the same density as a 70mp full frame sensor, right? Seems excessive, how many lenses would even be able to take advantage of that?

It's designed like this for the next top end sony mirrorless camera. You may have also seen that they have put a lot of effort into getting perfectly square pixels.

They've done this so that in combination with a stacked sensor they can join groups of 2, 4 or 16 pixels into one "super pixel" which will allow a full sensor readout at 8k, 4k and 1080p.

The only real problem with the sensor in it's current state is getting a storage solution that can accept 8k 30fps, as Sony don't want to make people rely on a new atomos for pro level footage.

This is probably going to be the a7000 or the a6?00. I wouldn't cop it for two reasons
1: it's APS-C
2: it's first gen and SOnY is notorious for gimping their first gen tech just so they can sell you a vastly improved version half a year later
if the A7 iv and A7r iv have this (and -4 ev focusing) and it actually turns out not to be a gimmick I might unironically switch to SOnY from my d600

Meaning everything you just said is irrelevant and wrong.

This, global shutter is holly grail of amateur videography. And it'll bring a small revolution to still photography as well. Say goodbye to mechanical shutter, and say hello to 10000/s shutter speeds.

We already had 1/8000 mechanical shutters, I can't see how a quarter stop is going to make a difference with stills.

You'll more than likely be able to get response times around 1/100k as the max with later generations. You'll probably need an atomic bomb as your flash though. If they limit the exposure speed it will be because someone was like, "no one will be able to get that much light on the subject so it doesn't matter" type of thing and not because it can't do it. Hopefully, there will be some firmware hacks to bypass such limitations.

well, is globalshutter for still photography so muhc of an improvement if you dont need silent shutter or immense burst?
If at all I maybe could imagine Sony bringing globalshutter with the a7s III.
Or maybe with the a7 IV? How long do you guys think this camera will take to hit the marked?

I thought about getting the a7iii but maybe I will settle with the mark2 first (half the price), invest in some glass and maybe get the 4 later.
