Digital cameras, ones that shoot stills that is, are generally intended to be these sort of self contained devices. So in that world connecting an SSD thats the same size as a mirrorless camera body just doesn't make sense, I can't even think of a way to attach it that wouldn't be awkward. On the video side it's a different story, I believe that red cameras, and other high end video gear do actual use specialized SSD's as storage medium, but those cameras also deal in absolutely enormous files sizes comparatively. It probably comes down to practicality, while a red camera's bitrate necessitates enormous storage sizes, current lower end files sizes arent quite big enough to justify a full time solid state drive vesus just an array of sd cards to switch out. It would also definitely not be a trivial addition, if we cant even get canikon to add a second card slot, how are they going to be convinced to add an entirely different connector type, as well as all the internal electrical components to accommodate such a high throughput medium.
