I hope someday when we get Global Shutter, the E-mount will be revised into a backwards compatible E-mount+ which has compatibility with this type of lens that can almost touch the sensor.

It most likely has excellent PDAF performance.

So your finger can just concentrate on the aperture dial, while your eye can concentrate on composition.
There is no need to look at the DoF scale.

3190 mAh, that's huge.

The Sony battery which gives the leading edge mirrrorless battery life performance has: 7.2V/2280mAh.
So this means the new Zeiss battery is +50% larger than it.

This camera will have the new record most likely.
But I also imagine it will need the extra juice, since it has Photoshop built into the camera.

GR III is coming soon. I think it makes sense to prioritize image quality over compactness, because otherwise the advantages over a phone would be smaller. Most people carry a bag or a backpack anyway.

Some worthless predictions:

- It'll be ludicrously expensive
- Amazing lens, sharp from f/2
- Stunning EVF
- "High quality feel", "Leica-like in its simplicity and execution"
- "divisive", highly uncomfortable grip. Hard to hold. Bad ergonomics.
- Exposure triangle controls ok, but all the rest sucks. Touch screen gestures unreliable.
- Firmware sucks. Editing is slow, limited, mostly a gimmick. (For people who don't want to edit a decent picture profile suffices, for people who do, you're going to do it on a proper computer anyway)
- Confusing menus, limited functionality. Probably lacking basic stuff other manufacturers do include like timelapse or auto ISO minimum shutter speed. Little or no customization options.
- Mediocre AF, probably contrast only
- With a bit of luck, people manage to root it, discover the internal function bindings and write homebrew apps for it. Probably too expensive for the nerds that would attempt this though.

Aside from maybe the Ikon (ZM), Zeiss doesn't exactly have the best record for making cameras. And they don't have any experience designing a digital camera AFAIK. I'm skeptical.

Missed this but yeah it does run Android. Samsung and Panny both failed with their Android phone cams but I think Zeiss has got it this time around.

Actually, look at the SS dial. It has an extra lever nest to it. Most likely one of those options is a Minimum-SS option.

AEL button, menu button, preview button, drive mode button, focus points selection button, quick info button, aperture preview, focus helpers... You'll be swiping that screen like a moron, and since you'll need to have touch screen turned on all the time, you'll also inadvertently press stuff with your nose.

I was more thinking of Zeiss giving us an API to access to camera features. Even with full blown Android it's going to be a pain if we can't access the internal camera systems. The hacked Sony app support didn't have access to much of the camera.

Is it? Given the smartphone OS, I think that a 3.6 V battery, not a 7.2 V one like in most cameras, so it has more or less the same watt-hours as in most compact mirrorless cams.

Sure, but when 99.99% of existing Android devices have 3.6 V single-cell batteries, making it work properly with a two-cell one might involve more tinkering with the charge control software than necessary.
Although depending on how thick the walls are, that battery door could be big enough to fit something the size of two 18650s.

At least TL was pretty light. I don't know how you're supposed to hold the 2lb Zeiss comfortably without any texture or indentation on the grip, that seems like form over function.
