How do you organize your photos?

I do a few different types of photography at various frequencies so my methods differ per type.

Concerts: Super infrequent, so I simply do [YYYY-MM-DD][Artist][City] in a Concerts folder. Then it's Edited/RAW folders in that.

Portraits: Again pretty infrequent, so I just date + name + theme and store edited/raws in that folder.

Events I do about 8 per year but they're always the same ones, so I order them by event > year > edits/RAW/video clips

So like Event 1 > 2015/2016/2017/2018 > Edits/RAW/Video

Product photography/videography - most frequent as it's for the company I work for, and my organization is abysmal. Like, final edits are somewhat findable, but raw photos are atrocious. I need to spend like an entire work day or 2 to try and organize everything, it's just hard to put aside other work to do this.

My biggest issue is letting things build up until there's a big spring cleaning needed on my hard drives so then I'm out of commission for a while while I mend things. I need to have a more strict work flow from the get go. But considering I have a home desktop, work desktop, and laptop, it's hard to have like a centralized system to store these things that's also quick. Like would a larger external SSD do the trick, or do I just need to suck it up and use cloud storage more?

I have a folder for each year, and those folders contain sub folders with the date images were taken along with a brief description on their place and subject matter. I browse via bridge because everything is shot in RAW.

I just dump things on one drive, every new SD card in a separate folder labeled by Year - Month - #. Then I use Bridge to organize things into collections, sort, find, tag, and so on.

Currently have a 2tb ext ssd. I save all my photos in folders named after the date of the shoot and the location/event (ex: 2019_01_10_CityName).

The ssd is synced to my cloud storage so photos upload as soon as they’re placed. Content of folders include raw files, edited pngs/jpgs, and psd files. Edited images will be put in a nested folder named ‘Edited’

Whenever I find a photo I want to work on while I sift through my recent shots, I’ll rename the raw file something relevant to the pic, and continue this until I run through all my recent photos.

I don’t keep any image files on my laptop.

cloud is good but if you do video, do more local storage, thats when you hit /g/ up for that custom NAS from 10TB to 150TB on one rack server

Then lots of metadata. Then I can just use the search function and everything I need pops right up without me needing to slog through 100k photos.

Bizarrely I'm still using picasa, fast, has auto-sort and face-recognition, free automatic backup to cloud storage, and the GUI is perfect for me to jump backwards and forwards from things like photoshop. Plus I like the storage where every day has its own folder, and edits are sub-foldered.
Its getting harder to find these days since it was discontinued about 3 years ago, but after three attempts at transferring to Lightroom I just keep going back to it. I like adobe for photoshop obviously, but Lightroom I just dont find intuitive.
