So I am an absolute total new fag to photography in general. how do I shoot photos with this weird black and white effect. Like what you see on a lot of old school industrial and no wave album covers.

There's presets you can use to do that now. Also, a few tutorials. It is like a 2-5 min per image job to do and you can make a macro to do it all for you once you've recorded it. You can make it looks like newspaper/magazine print or anything.

how would you do it on a photocopier? I own everything else but Photoshop and I haven't pirated it because im a brainlet who does't really know how to use it

Photocopy it, copy the copy, repeat until you're happy with it.

levels is good for altering the light and dark areas but to get high contrast with little "inbetween" shades, posterize is the way to go.

Use Silver Efex 2 from the Nik Collection plugin series in conjunction with Lightroom or PS. Best black and white editor I've ever used. You can find the Google version for free if you look around.

Here's the best I've come up with for this look.

>Open image in Photoshop
>Use channel mixer to convert image to B+W, use whichever colour preset makes the image uniformly dark
>Unsharp mask 344% 3.3-3.6px, 0 levels
>Threshold reduced to taste, generally down into single digits

And you're done.
