>>3379758I doubt 35mm is such a commnon focal length in movies.
Most movies are shot on super35 film or sensors which is smaller then a 35mm back ergo gives you a crop factor. 28mm is, appereantly, a common focal length for cinema which gives you a cropfactor of around 1,5x = ~ 42mm.
With anamorphic lenses this stayes the same but all changes if the footage is matted, the the dp probably will choose another lens to get the desiered vertical AoV
If you shoot vertical your vertical AoV becomes a little bit wider due to the 3:2 sensor/film aspect ratio.
>>337983650mm as a standard lens is a meme. A real normal lens is the diagonal of the film/sensor. On 35mm this would be 43mm.
Personally i like to shoot in 35mm to give of a more "in the moment" or "personal" effect. Longer focal length is nothing else then the viewer standing more back, sometimes looking too much of a behind the bushes voyeur. Can be greate to show isolation, loneliness or with couples intimicy. Imo.
