What should I get between a Canon Eos 60d, with only 1000 shots, with 18-200mm IS lens and a Canon Eos 760d, with a Canon EF 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS lens?

What if we add to the mix a Canon Eos 800d with 18-55 IS?

Mostly will be using it as a family camera, no sports or action photo.

All 3 cameras are around the same price used, but two of them I can see and test in person, the 800d I have to buy without testing.

Sorry for the total noob question but I have never owned a digital camera before, just film ones.
I was gifted a Canon 60D and I only have a SanDisk Extreme 128GB SDXC UHS-3 Card. Can I use it? The manual says it is compatible with SDXC cards and only recommends a card that is at least class 6 or above without saying something about max size.

Yes, you can use it. You propably won't see any benefits from using a brand new card on an old camera but you can use it.
So, Nikon rep told me that they will soon stop servicing D3s and that I should upgrade to newer model.
Problem is that they won't loan me a D5 to try it out and I don't know if the price difference with the D500 is justified. Has anyone here tried it?

What should I get between :
A Nikon D7000 with a 12,000 shutter count
A Canon 60D with a 3,000 shutter count (same price)
A Canon 700D with a 11 shutter count (lol) (slightly more expensive, like 30 bucks)

I want to buy them along a Sigma
17-50 mm F2,8 DC OS HSM EX, seems better than the Tamron. If you got a better lens for the same price, I'm all ears.

edit : I feel like the Nikon is superior in terms of technical aspects, I don't wanna shoot video with it btw.

About the wifi, I don't use it but once in a while it comes in handy, like when a cute girl or a couple would like to have a quick share of the photo, I just quick process it on the camera, export into small jpeg and send it through wifi to their phone or my phone and send by email.
I believe the Nikon has a small dongle you can plug into the camera but there are Wifi SD card like EyeFi or Flucard.
I have a Flucard, it is quicker and easier to use than the proprietary Nikon one.

Have you checked the Tokina AF-X Pro 16-50 f2.8 DX out? When I tried it together with the Tamron and Sigma I liked it better.

Look for the Tamron 70-200/2.8
Either the G1 VC USD or the first model the IF Macro. I have the latter, cheap but very nice lens, great for portraits and sports. With a TC you can also use it for some limited wildlife, birding and motorsports/plane shows.

I have the Pentax DA* version of that lens, it has an excellent image, very nice transitions on the bokeh, very pleasing for portraits.

I saw an ad online for a Canon 1DX Mk. II for about 3200 USD (2800 EUR) with 0 clicks on it. It sounded like a scam but I decided to send a mail anyway. The seller then said I could drop by anytime to check the camera but when I suggested a time late in the afternoon he said it had to be 8am or earlier because he leaves for work after. The ad is gone now (didn't last more than a day) but I wonder if this was too good to be true or if I was just being paranoid, if legit he still could have sold it for a 1000 more so I have my doubts. Anyone ever experience anything similar?

Yeah counting the gift card, would buy a lens for it so i took it out of the price.
The ebay sale on right now + TRS takes it to 3371 + the gift card brings it down.

Yeah for sure. I was mainly between the A7III or X-T3 but the A7RIII seemed to be at a pretty unbeatable price. Currently shooting witha D750 so I think I'd be disappointed going back to crop with the fuji despite it being a great camera in its own right.
Still apprehensive about dropping 3k on a camera though.

Depends on what you want to do.
For landscapes go Nikon since it has better dynamic range, D3200 sells used at about that price, D7000 is a bit more expensive.
For portraits and street photo meme then go canon, they have a nifty fifty for 100bucks or 70bucks used, nikon wants 200bucks new 150 used for their AF-s nifty fifty, unless you get a D7000 then you can use the older AF D lens which is about the same price as the canon.

A7R ii and iii have the same sensor, the things that were added to the 3 were some AF things, the AF knob, moving buttons around, and the pixel-shift thing. Also taking better uncropped 4k.

Planning on buying a A7m2. Any AF lens suggestions with a total budget of 300€? I like zooms for their versatility but upgrading to fullframe i'd also like to have something fast of course.

I'm thinking of just getting the 28-70mm kit lens first (used) as a basic zoom.
Also eying the canon 17-40 f/4 or better 17-35 f/2.8 which with adapter would cost me 500+ bucks (used), so maybe later.
Maybe the Samyang AF 24mm f/2.8 or 35mm f/2.8 (new because their production line testing seems to suck)?

Going off the Lensrentals and Kolarivision teardowns, the Nikon Z7 has the best weathersealing of the lot. If you're going to be in dusty or wet conditions that'll help the longevity a lot. The Z-mount stuff seems kinda overpriced to me but if you get the F-mount adapter you'll have a wide selection of good glass for decent prices.

Depends on your total budget including lenses, extra batteries and other considerations like portability, bokek, lowlight high iso, silent shutter, etc. I'd go for A7ii for high iso, and bokek. A6000 for lightness and save $ for travel. But when I do street with multiple subjects/envt'al portraiture, I use deep DOF anyways. Only thin DOF if street portraiture or lowlight w/o flash.

What's a good hidden style camera I can use on my body? I want to record some dying malls in my city like Dan Bell but walking around with a DSLR or my phone is obviously going to grab a lot of attention. I thought about a GoPro on my chest but that's also very obnoxious.

I also want to film some really 80s looking office buildings that are still very populated and would definitely not like a big camera filming them.

sadly I can't figure out how to use film simulation bracketing with b&w
I think I saw it on the x100f, you can shoot raw+jpeg and it will save the differnet film simulation jpegs you selected; for example b&w, astia, velvia, ...
I want to shoot astia/velvia jpeg + b&w jpeg
but it doesn't seem to be possible on my x100;;

maybe I will have enough spare money to buy a x100f one day

You can't, in later Fuji models you can select which simulations you want but in the original x100 it will always use the 3 color ones.

Is the EF-M 22mm F2 STM appropriate for portrait work? In my noob knowledge the short focal length makes me think "No", but I've read people have had success with it.

Well it depends what kind of portraits you want to take. It's a bit on the wide side so it will take in a lot of background.
I grabbed pic related from flickr, it was shot with the 22mm f2

Do you have any example images of the kind of portraits you would like to take?

Alright gear fags, I've finally come to the conclusion that a 5D is nice and all but if I actually want to get myself to take pictures I need portability.

Would love some recommendations based on these factors:

1. Small form factor, something to grab and run out the house with I'm guessing this probably means mirrorless.
2. Interchange ables lenses as I mostly like to shoot with primes wide open. 35/50/85 is pretty much all I need for the portraits that I wanna shoot.
3. Good ISO preformance. I love to shoot low light, I know I'm gonna have to take a hit here probably but we'll see

Bonus: Sexy. Who doesnt like beautiful machines.

The 5D's portable. I bring my 5D with me everywhere I go.

If you want something smaller, though, you can get a Sony A7 or A7II real cheap these days.

Not really downgraded since I still use both. But I went from 5diii to em10iii. Idea was to just to get something lighter for backpacking, and something that's got good range for birbing without the need for 10k lenses. I'm cheaping out on my next lenses for my a7rii, if I can.

I want to get a walkabout zoom, either 24-70 or 16-35. Preferably f2.8, bu f4 is probably okay since I'd like it to be a nice all-around for indoor shit too.

Thinking about getting an MC-11 and some older Canon stuff on the cheap. It sounds like the MC-11 doesn't like lenses made before 2006, though.

Is this stupid or should I just suck it up and get on the Tamron 28-75 waitlist? I need something in-hand by the 26th of this month.

Pana 15mm 1.7
Oly 17mm 1.8
Pana 20mm 1.7

The 15mm is the most expensive, and I don't think the manual aperture ring will work on my Oly body., but apparently the IQ is the best of the three and the AF is solid. The 17mm apparently has the worst IQ, but seemingly has the best AF speed which would be good for street. The 20mm is the cheapest and has solid IQ but the AF is apparently awful, but it is super small which is nice. I already have the Pana 25mm/1.7 so I dunno if it'd be too close to that, too.

Thoughts?

14 is a bit wide. if you're not happy with it, i wouldn't got with 15. Try and loan them, rentals aren't very expensive. If you've a local store nearby you can even come to agreement and they can let them try the lenses for free. It's standard practice among phototogs. As long as you buy one, they'll be happy. You can also look at Sigma 16mm f/1.4 dc dn. It's direct convert from E mount, so it's huge, but I've seen it get some nice reviews.

Both Sigma and Panasonic start with their own selection. Sigma will convert existing sigma lenses for mirrorless formats to L-mount for you if you send it to them (confirmed for 14 lenses). Not as much as E-Mount but a good selection for a newly launched line

That's a good choice. Sharp optics is sharp.

Don't bother with the kit lens nor black Friday. Those events are for older cameras like Rebels or A6000, or other cameras that have a difficult time selling.

I do! Purchased it on Amazon with a set of filters. At first glance I thought "Oh well, it's cheap, must be not strong" and it's a monster! Great for long exposure, compact that fits even in a handbag, and it enlarges enough to get some nice shots. I encourage you to purchase it, is a great one.

If you mean the plate that connects to the camera, not. But if you want to add a different piece for all the central part, just search one with the same diameter. It really keeps well a D700 and a 28-200 Almost kilo and a half,very sturdy, balanced and compact. I'd give it a 10/10

Moiré is usually induced by regular, man made patterns. Nature shots rarely exhibit any. Also the finer the sensor resolution is (megapickles) it will react differently to moiré, you need a similarly finer pattern to induce it so that is why manufacturers are confident leaving it in their newer designs.

All right. I'm considering getting the Nikon D750, but one of the things holding me back is the fact that it has that optical low-pass filter. The D810, which doesn't have the filter, is too expensive to be palatable for me at this point, and so if I wanted a camera without it I'd have to sacrifice the full-frame sensor as a whole.
As a side note, if I did, I'd probably go for the Nikon D7200.
Is the absence of moiré control and sharper image definition worth going down from a full-frame camera for the sake of? I can't imagine it is, but I just want to make sure in case I'm retarded.

With "head" I mean the part that has the ball joint and upwards. I know the plate is Arca Swiss, which is a widely used standard.
I take it the head can't be replaced but the column, but i have never seen separate columns to buy

True. Clip on lenses and extension tubes tend to magnify it even on aa cams. But seriously, It's down to so many parameters it's best not worrying too much about it. Glass, light, angle, magnification, bugs eye pattern... everything effects it.

I don't, I just want to get the most out of my investments.

I'm just evaluating whether buying a developing kit and a good film scanner, or selling my film cameras and lenses and adding those money to the budget of the aforementioned kit and scanner.
The scanner would be able to output excellent 20MP pictures, even when shooting from the most portable of the point and shoot, but film and development costs make the process slower, making me learn slower.
A digital camera would make shooting cheaper overall, I'd be able to shoot much more and I'd probably learn faster, but they're a lot bulkier, and lenses are criminally expensive compared to vintage ones (my 50mm f1.4 cost me just 60€).

Well, many manual vintage lenses can be adapted to a Canon dslr. And to most mirrorless of any brand. Chipped (for focus confirm) x to eos ef adapters are pretty cheap. Depends of what you have, not everything is (easily/cheaply) adaptable. And you probably still do want to have the kit lens too if you get a digital camera.

Something like a EOS 100d kit is not pocketable but definitely not bulky. (Got one for temporary replacement when my old one developed a problem. Found out it's good enough for me. I think it was like >300€.

If you want to go film, one option is get a vintage enlarger and couple of trays instead of scanner. I did it that way as kid in early stone age.

Film (and analog printing) is great fun and people managed fine with it but do not underestimate how much more convenient digital is.

Bugs eyes have hexagonal pattern, the sensor pixel pattern is rectangular.
It can do a sort of newton rings effect though if the working distance is close enough because the hexagonal pattern is distributed in a spherical form.

I considered that, but that would be as expensive as the scanner plus software when you factor in consumables, and would limit me to monochrome prints: color enlarger heads and color analizers are stupid expensive, and I've read the process is far more complex than black and white, meaning that initial yields would be really low and really bad. Moreover enlarger printing takes space, that I don't really have, and time, that I prefer to use differently.

I know, and also I'd love to print my photos (currently my film goes through a lab that only does dev+print, but the prints are really bad and often they don't even print the entire roll, only god knows why), but that's something I just can't do now.

17-55 is more flexible. 28 1.8 would be good if pancake, sharper, just a bit better for lowlight and it's the focal length you use the most or at least very near it.

I also have the same issue as you. I have a 11-16 2.8 for my apsc but MF since adapted. Tho I still want a 16 1.4 but can't justify buying one for now.

28mm for riots, you probably will use your feet more, will be situated in awkward framing/angles, pinned in tight areas, will miss some wide shots. At least that's my experience using only 30 1.4 at night with firetrucks and firemen in action. Upside was no flash and was able to handle lowlight better as you said.

I use the Sigma DC DN apsc Sony E mount. Native lenses usually have a more consistent lowlight AF hit ratio (less hunting or negligible). Just check for Sigma firmware update and reviews paired with your camera.

Go with the Nikon FF lens if you have doubts. My A6000 has slower AF compared to newer models so the Sigma sometimes hunts just a bit slower in low light compared to native lens. No need for dock in mirrorless tho, update is done via camera.

BS-2 won't fit well on a D700 and will prevent you from using the pop-up flash unless you cut some pieces, it was made for the D3/D3X and D4/D4S.

I've been using an original Sony A7 since launch with purely adapted lenses. After having a recent holiday using only a compact camera I've realised I don't really need the larger sensor and using adapted lenses is a bit clunky.

Would it be worth me getting an Olympus E-M1 ii with a 25mm 1.8? Based mainly on the weatherproofing and small lenses aspect? The prices have come down to about 1K now and I'm not really fussed about staying with Sony as I never truly invested in any native lenses anyway.

Arguably the Panasonic G9 is a better buy. Better video, has a top LCD and better EVF but a little bigger and Olympus IBIS is marginally better still. Also keep in mind Panasonic bodies work better with panasonic lenses due to the DFD system but olympus works the same with either.

But from my experience (I use a E-M5 II), micro 4/3 is a great system that's quite mature at this point. The only knock on it is IQ coming down from full frame but if you don't pixel peep, it's very good at this point.

Go into a camera shop and give the olympus and panasonic bodies a go, see which one you prefer.

Well, unfortunately those are not easily/cheaply adatable to dslr cameras. Adapters exist for fd to ef but either have optical elements (choise of expensive or suck) or do not allow focusing to infinity. So going mirrorless can be more realistic if you want to use adapted vintage fd (or rangefinder &cet) lenses.

I'd still suggest getting a 2nd hand digital kit for convenience and learning. Keep your vintage film gear for fun and nostalgia.

Is the a7r2 worth the 500 extra bucks on the a7m2 when I plan to probably upgrade in the following years to m3 or maybe then even m4?
The m3 is again 500 bucks more than the r2. (875€ vs 1375€ vs 1899€)

Reasons that speak for it may be:
- more AF points, cont. eye-af
- higher DR and better ISO performance

Reasons I dont care much:
- More MP: Neither do I have Gm lenses to properly make use of it, nor do I print 3m wide to stand a meter away from it and nor do I do extreme cropping.
Resampling may be the only reason.
- bigger file sizes (have enough harddrives)
- slower buffer (dont shoot burst much)

Against:
- costs 500 bucks more but is only 500 bucks less then the m3.

Anything else that I missed? Is the sensor alone worth the extra price? Does it make shooting with it much easier (I mainly shoot people but not sports)? If not I'd rather spend the money on some glass.

That's the thing should should do. The first priority is the lenses, make sure you can afford an awesome workhorse lens, like the Tamron 28-75 F2,8.
Or the 24-104 F4.
THEN you look at which body you can afford.

You're having a hard time choosing because both are reasonably priced at an affordable level. So that's another reason why you should think about the lens first.

Rii has Silent shooting. That might be worth it in some situations.

And I know the 7ii doesn't have Minimum Shutter Speed setting, which might come in handy depending on your preference.
Rii might have that feature. If it's important to you, it might be worth researching.

That's why I recommend the Tamron 28-70 F2,8.

It's really that good and can give you that extra 1-2 stops if the situation gets too dark/slow.
You can consider its sharpness as a nice side bonus in your case.

It's on a completely different level than the kit lens.

One of the reasons people go for the mark 3 is the new buffer which speeds things up.

Does anyone has experience with eye-af and face detection on the mark 2? I just cant find any proper video on the internet.
I shoot a lot of candids with friends and when shooting wide open telling them to stop moving until I repositioned AF points or recompose my frame kinda sucks. Same for other types of portrait work. Is there any other fast way to achieve focus in such situation than those two modes?

EyeAF is only really critical when you want those F1,4 - F2 shots.
But when you do need them, it comes in incredibly handy.

It works exactly like the AF back button on the Canon cameras, you hold down the EyeAF and then take the shot.
The A7Rii will have a massive advantage on this part because it's continuous tracking of the eye.

The PDAF coverage and density is significant lower on the m2 and eye-af only works in af-s mode. For a model that only moves slightly, is it fast and accurate enough?

Is face detection working fast and accurate even when leaving the PDAF covered area?
I dont shoot with extrem DOF too much, I like to incorporate the background a little bit more instead of just blurring it all out, so face detection would probably be enough most of the times.

Everybody only use the EyeAF, and it's not very good on the A7ii, because it isn't continuous.
Rii's AF is much better than 7ii.
But not as good as the 7iii.
Not sure how else to quantify that.

I think spending the money on a nice lens i can take with me to future bodies will be worth more. The Sigma 20mm 1.4, even if huge, looks sexy af. Non closeup wide angle with smooth dof makes me drooling.

Some manual Samyang/Rokinon/whatever lenses have metering/focus confirmation/EXIF/etc but only on F-mount and K-mount where they can be used in P, A, S, and M modes (other mounts are M only).
Nowadays they also have autofocus lenses for E-mount, EF-mount and F-mount, those obviously have full electronic features.

I basicly allready made my decision to go with the cheaper a7ii and invest the money in things that truely make my pictures better like a good lens, lights etc. Just still interested to find an answer to this topic.

I purchased a used lens at 82% percent the cost of a brand new one, shipping included, from eBay, because ever getting a deal on these stupid Samsung lenses is next to impossible.

However, upon unwrapping the lens I immediately noticed four different spiderweb fractures on the internal elements. Only one of the sellers photos may depict these fractures, but without having referenced the physical item it would be impossible to discern. This gives me reason to believe this was not damage accrued during shipping, it was packed well, but rather the listing description was woefully misleading. Thus, I should have plenty of evidence to get all of my money back.

However, how concerned about these fractures should I be, both picture quality, and the chance of the fractures getting worse? I'd be happy with just a significant partial refund and keep the lens instead. I intend to use it hiking so there's less concern of knocks and scratches to a shitty lens. It's night so I cannot go out to take any test shots.

I feel the 24-105mm would be super versatile for travel, and weddings and everything and the extra stop of speed is not as necessary with today's cameras.

It's not that much of a problem. Just ask yourselfif you want to spend 2029, or 1249.

No matter which option you pick, you're goign to get a great lens.
The F2,8 is well worth it on situations of worse light, a extra stop of light is very significant.

Sure is. evf is fantastic, controls are some of the best there is, and you've a huge selection of lenses to select from. Everything from panasonic works flawlessly. First recommendation would be one extra fast prime in 20mm to 25mm range to get you something usable in low light.

The reason I recommend Sony is that we know they are good, and it is pretty much either micro four thirds or Sony for mirrorless. Sony is mature and has the same ecosystem for APS-C and Fullframe.

It depends on what photography you want to start off doing straight away.

The A5100 is really light and inexpensive. Good for discreet stuff with a small lens and taking everywhere.

But the down side is it has no EVF, and no hotshoe (does have a popup flash) if you want to get into off camera flash for portraits.

It is $548 with the 16-50mm (about 24-75mm equiv) kit lens on B&H. Though that lens has a powerzoom switch rather than a zoom ring - that would annoy the shit out of me.

The OMD EM10 Mk III is $799 on B&H with the 14-42mm (28-84mm equiv) kit lens, but currently has a $200 savings making it $599 on B&H.

EM10 Mk III has the advantage of doing 4K video while the A5100 and A6000 do FHD, until you move up to the A6300/A6500 etc.

I should also mention the A5100 and A6000 are 2014 cameras.

I cant recommend any kind of lens more expensive than a kit lens without even knowing what you want to shoot.

I'd want you to be happy with what you get, and have the best in your budget range.

Best could be best in image quality, or best in AF, or anything else - which ever helps the most to get the shot, miss less shots.

It's the same ecosystem, really not much difference between them. Just look at prices and and features, and whether they have ibis for Panasonic. All Olympuses are with it, but it's sweet if you've Panasonic with ibis, as it opens up completely Olympuses side of the lenses as well. But really, price points are what matters, it's better spending less on the body, so you've more left for the lenses.

Sony is a crapheap of a company. They make great sensors with incredibly shitty cameras attached to them.
Almost every part of Sony produces half-shitty products at best and act like total assholes.
And the only reason why their E-Mount sold is that they had a Strangehold on the market. The moment Sigma and Lumix drop their FF-mirrorless, the A7 line is gonna tank.

Every good point Sony has is directly related to the Sensors. Everything else (Ergonomics, Menu, extra features, battery life, stabilization, weather sealing, resilience, etc.) Is shot compared to the competition.

None of those are an issue. Feels great in the hand to me, battery life is fine, shipped with 2 batteries by default, Ive never finished a second battery after an entire day of shooting.

Travelling is fine, it can charge through camera via power bank. I also have a dual charger with USB input, and total of 3 batteries just in case.

Stabilisation is fantastic honestly, especially if you get an OSS lens combined with body stabilisation. Stabilised manual lenses on FF is great too. Weather sealing has also been fine in rain, and that is also to do with the lens.

Not to mention the AF is amazing, eye AF is a treat on wide open 85mm, which even works on my first gen body with CDAF only, just not as amazingly as third gen, but still pretty good. Animal eye AF is in the works too.

Ridiculous desu, I would prefer it if Panasonic could come up with strong competition, it would be better for everyone, and help drive more innovation. But I doubt it on their first gen.

Sony's Stabilization on their APS-C sensors is actually WORSE than their FF stabilization, So I don't believe that the issue will impact Lumix cameras much. Especially when seeing how Fuji has decent IBIS despite having bigger sensors

If you want ultrapoor get a Tokina 28-70 2.8. They go for like $100 bucks and have nice IQ, soft and dreamy wide open at the long end but sharpens up around 3.5 or smaller.

I found Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 ($110) even though it's a dx lens it seemed like it could work my with d700 but after quick googling it appears that the build quality is shit,and some issues with autofocus.
Tamron 28-75 2.8 xr Di Ld looks okay for $150-200.
Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 24-85mm f/2.8 (for $180-200)
I'm just curious if there's a zoom lens for around 200+-(If can find a good deal)that would be decent enough longterm just,
don't wanna buy something to throw away shortly after.Also which one is best out of all of these.

if shot at night, if you light the interior of the car and expose for that, wouldnt be the outside be underexposed? Or because the interior would still be much darker than a lighted street you can easily light it up a little bit?

At day i would have said if dynamic range of the camera is not great enough light the interior to get in-and outside exposed equally.
