https://www.marieclaire.com.au/terry-richardson-every-sexual-harassment-and-assault-allegationA few of these are kind of bullshit, but:
1. Generally when there are multiple assault allegations about someone, it’s a tip-of-the-iceberg situation. Ie, there are far more incidents that aren’t reported because the model doesn’t want to make waves or is afraid of some sort of retaliation or just doesn’t want to think about it because they feel irrationally ashamed of it.
2. There are probably more incidents where the model was legitimately okay with it but another model wasn’t okay with the same actions. Ie, some models will be thinking “Holy shit, Terry Richardson’s cock! This is awesome!” while others will experience it as assault. Not all sexual interactions where you don’t get explicit permission for are assault, but all sexual assaults are the result of not getting explicit permission.
3. When you’re a photographer—especially one as famous as Richardson, and especially when you’re a professional photographer to whom a modeling agency has sent a model on a paying job—you have a certain amount of power over the other person. So even if a model technically consents, the power imbalance taints the consent somewhat, so you need to be VERY careful about that shit.
As someone who does nude photo shoots with women all the time, it’s not *that* hard to do the consent thing right:
A. Agree beforehand on what the model’s limits are. Don’t spring it on her in the middle of the shoot where she’ll feel like she’s letting everyone down if she doesn’t jerk you off.
B. Make it clear to her that she can say no without negative repercussions.
Like, LEGALLY he’s probably in the clear with most of those incidents. But he’s still an asshole, and it’s still rightfully trashing his career.
