It would still stand to reason that if someone has a camera they've invested money in to, they probably know how to take a half decent picture. You wouldn't walk up to someone who looks like they have no idea how a phone works and ask them to take your picture.

Also, from their point of view, you never know how 'the guy with the camera' is gonna react after asking them to use a dumb phone to take a free snapshot, so the unassuming friend is a safer bet.

You can always offer yourself to shoot an extra picture, OP.
