>>3404535The Yongnuo lens is most likely a 50mm (the Hoya thing you mentioned is just a filter on the front).
So, with those two lenses, she has:
1. Normal zoom (ie, slightly wide to decent telephoto). Good for general photography in decent light.
2. Portrait/low light. That blurry/in focus effect is the result of a wide aperture, which is also what you need for low light.
So a few options for holes she doesn’t have filled (nudge nudge, wink wink):
A. Something wider-angle. Sigma makes a 10-22mm lens that would fit this bill, and used copies can be had within your budget. Make sure you get the Nikon mount version since Sigma produces lenses in multiple mounts.
B. Something more telephoto. You can get a Nikon 55-200 for well within your budget, and possibly the 70-300. Make VERY SURE you get the af-S version of you go for either of these and not the af-P version. AF-P won’t work in her camera.
C. If she does in fact have the Yongnuo 50mm as her portrait lens, it might be helpful to have a normal lens for low light shots that aren’t quite so tight. Yongnuo makes a 35/2.0 for around $100, or Nikon makes a 35/1.8 for a little more. Alternately, if what she has is already the 35, then a 50 or 85mm would be a good option.
D. You can go for something wacky and creative that she might like playing around with. Something like a Lensbaby will get her mocked here (don’t EVER EVER bring her here), but will give her pictures unique and different from any other lens and can be lots of fun.
