>>3399883>digital dr is bad memeIt's clear you never actually shot film. Every DSLR on the market today can match or beat Kodak Portra for DR. (inb4 grey sky sample film fags claim is 9,001 stops) Most other color films were a good 2-3 stops behind Portra.
Soup up the right B&W film and you can out DR a Nikon D850. But a typical B&W film in a typical developer would yield 9-10ev. E6 films were 6-8ev.
Thumb through an old photography magazine sometime. Blocked up shadows were the norm. Highlights rolled off a little better but they still rolled off and blew out. When I got my first DSLR in 2003 I was impressed with the DR versus the films I was shooting at the time. And that DSLR was maybe a 10ev sensor, 11ev with NR in the shadows.
The 5D4 is about 1.5 stops better than a 6D in terms of DR. If you shoot dual pixel RAWs there's a tool that will give you another stop on the highlight side, putting it on par with a D850.
HOWEVER...you have to know how to exploit that. How to expose for it, process it, and get it on a print or screen. Something tells me you're not accomplishing that with a 6D so a 5D4 won't benefit you.
