As someone who''ve used sd cards as boot medium on laptop, running all the time for several years, I can say I only experienced one card failing, that one failed after few months of use, the other two ran for years and still work

back in the day of micro drives it happened all the time.

I had a microdrive go tits up on me, and one of those little WiFi SD cards. Other than that, no failures in hundreds of thousands of pictures.
