I am looking to buy a setup to do very detailed photography of insects. Photos where you can see the compound eyes, the hairs on their bodies etc. I do not have a camera for this at this stage and have been looking at the options. Since this is quite specific photography I have been looking for lenses that will accommodate the goal.
I have seen some great results with people using the Canon MP-E 65mm lens which boasts a reproduction ratio from 1:1 to 1:5
While I would be doing some photography at home in studio type settings, there will be the need to do a fair amount in field with live insects.
Do you have any recommendations on a lens and camera setup?
If I can get away with it, financially and weight wise it would be nice to have an APS-C camera with an appropriate lens since I will be tramping to where some insects are. But if need be I could afford to go entry level full frame, but not top end.
