you can get replacement wrap around that camera i'm sure. get someone to take a look at it, Solid camera if you can get it to work

if you have some good glue like pliobond and all the pieces of vulcanite you can just glue them back on usually. Once vulcanite has weakened it will keep breaking though.
If you have just small gaps you could fill those up with something like black Sugru.

The cheapest way to restore it fully would be to get replacement leather from Aki Asahi. It's not vulcanite, but it'll look decent enough. (If you want real vulcanite you can probably send it to Leica for €€€, and IIRC there's also a place in the UK that bakes new vulcanite on Barnack Leicas a little cheaper)

If cameraleather still exists, you could also get more premium leather from there, or a griptac wrap if you care more about usability than looks.

This is an old camera that's been sitting still for ages probably, if you really want to use it and are willing to invest some money into it, just bite the bullet and get a full CLA done by a pro. I've only heard great things about Youxin Ye, as recommended above, if you're based in the US.
I've done IIIf CLAs myself in the past but I honestly wouldn't recommend it.

as Leica goes the IIIf is not overly valuable but it is still a pleasure to use. they are also quite easy to get repaired if something is not working, lots of people still work on them.

the vulcanite can not be repaired, it was actually baked onto the brass body, but you can get replacement leatherette. take your time and clean all the old vulcanite off and carefully apply the new stuff and it will look pretty good.

you can look up the SN to find the year of the camera, how many were made that year and weather it is just another IIIf or something more valuable

Ever replaced it yourself? I got a beater M2 coming in. If it's ok mechanically, I'm thinking about getting some griptac stuff for it and the M4-P (to get rid of the red dot).

Just take off all the vulcanite, clean with acetone, make a paper template and cut some leather to size and shape and glued it on.

Pic related is my IIIc with the steps I took.

The leather can be replaced pretty easily with vinyl. Try searching "Aki-Asahi"

Don't flip it for change, that's an heirloom piece. Better to keep using it.

That rubber-based stuff needs to be polished pretty often otherwise it cracks. Like once a year or so. Clearly it hasn’t been polished in decades so it’s too far gone and had to be replaced anyways.

I highly suggest you consider a nice camera leather for it instead as a replacement. It’s not too expensive ($50 max for the absolute best stuff) and is respectful to such a nice camera.

Looks like it's easy if you did it several times already.
You sold it cause of the red dot? I love mine and a little tape deals with the red dot. The finder is a little foggy, but it otherwise works great. Waiting for the M2 to arrive and check if the brass gears are really smoother.

well sort of
I had 2 screw mound bodies, and a M3 when I got the M4-p. I shot 2 rolls through it and had a case of buyers remorse. My friend had a nice summicron but no body so I sold him the M4-p.
traded the IIc for a field camera
sold the IIIf
still shoot the M3

I dind't notice as much of a difference between the M3 and M4-p as you would expect. The M4-p was a bit lighter and I don't like the diagonal winder.
The biggest thing I noticed between the M3 (the M2s I have used) and the M4-p is the sound. it is slightly different and just doesn't sound quite as solid. It is no where near the tinny sound of the Zeiss Ikon or Nikon FM but not quite the crisp "tlip" of a M3, M2, or MP.
shooting the though M4-p is exactly the same as shooting the M6 except you don't have a meter. The M6ttl has a fucked up dial that goes the wrong way, and the M7 is just kinda electronic shit.

It arrived and looks better than it did on the product photos. The stuff on the top looked a lot worse in some of their shots (grey/dark spots). Shutterspeeds and selftimer work, but 1/15s and 1/30s sound a little different to those at the M4-P. Fokus (tested wide open at min. focus distance with the goggled DR Summicron) is good and exposure seems be good as well (1/1000-1/15s tested). Parallax correction of the framelines is sticky from time to time, but I guess that's just a drop of oil on the mechanism and it works like a charm again. Viewfinder is in better condition (less foggy) than the one at my M4-P. Now the best thing about it: I paid 400eur.

the frame lines on the m4p didn't add much to me seeing as I need the finder for the 21 anyway, and don't mind 35 on the m3. I like the .91 finder.
loading the m4p was nice but the m3 gets fairly quick with a little practice.
