is there a process on how you can paint on negative/plate or is the painting only happening on the processed photo? I presume something like stacking two negatives would make an olde photoshop trick but cant think of anything else.

Popular photo. The watches on the mans wrist below the man raising the flag were scratched out with a safety-pin. The reason behind this is because it appears that the man is wearing two wrist watches which shows that the Soviet Army was looting. Then there was smoke added in the background to make the victory seem more intense.

Dude took a bullet to the head. Combat photog got lucky with right place/right time.
It's called "The Falling Soldier" by Robert Capa. Taken during the Spanish Civil War in 1936.

Well, every print is alteration. In this case I fail to see anything worth going crazy about it. It's as clean as you'd expect from bw. Besides first one is lowly jpeg, there's no knowing what original uploader did to it.
