>>3430675it just kinda fell on me. I saw a barista at a local cafe that have the same band shirt I had, and he told me that he is throwing a house show at his house. that was my first house show.
but i was a total outsider noob so what I did was followed the IG of all the bands that played that night. most bands in the underground share show flyers on IG story and the chance of the shows being some cool underground thing is high because most local bands are just playing with other local bands.
then you just start talking to people at these shows. the same few people show up to all these shows because the scene is small and DIY spaces are hard to come by so the scene always show up to support it. most of these guys are in bands themselves.
then you add these people on facebook caz you have similar interest, and you guys can see what events each other are going to. and you add them on IG as well because both you and them share flyers of local shows in the area.
the music is cool and all and its an important part of the scene, but the reason people come back again and again is because of the integrity of DIY. once you see people doing what they love for no pay, once you see people not caring that they are playing in front of 3 people, once you see people booking shows tirelessly for no pay, all for the sake of the scene, there is really no going back. nothing have that level of heart and authenticity.
started photography just to document the scene because i realize that something amazing is happening here in the area (im from San Jose, CA) and for some reason no one is paying attention to it. why try to explain what's going on when i can just show you
sorry this became an essay.
