the w530 would probably be something on the lines of a d800 because it got the newer command dial but ultimately there are none because they don't respect your freedom, but cameras are tools and fine in the eyes of stallman so there's that.

Honestly, any weather-sealed camera from one of the top brands (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax) is going to be tough and reliable.

Especially DSLRs aimed at pros, but they are all honestly good enough.

Nikon D700, old as shit, built like a brick, reliable, cult following. If you want a parallel for the chinkpad decline into lower-quality products with features stripped out look at pretty much any current Nikon body below the D750. Particularly looking at you, D7500.

There are a lot of significant issues with the 5D classic, but the 96% viewfinder isn’t one of them.

I had a Middleton'd T61 with Penyrn T9500 and 8gb RAM when I owned my 5D Classic.

I've moved to two Latitudes, an E6520 and a D830 for my racecar build but I have an IBM T30 as a backup for the car. It's for a standalone Megasquirt ECU

It doesn't particularly matter. Photo editing isn't very demanding. Some kind of acceptable discrete GPU (840M +), and a 14"+ 1080p 100% sRGB IPS screen, as well as 8gb or more ram. There have been laptops which fit these specs since 2013.

only a few thinkpads are fit to be hackintoshes and the main reason people buy them is because they're cheap, reliable, built well and will last you twice as long as any other laptop, that is depending on the model you chose of course.

You just posted the model I'm currently writing on. My camera is missing in this thread though and I wouldn't describe the 6D related to the W530. I'd say some 1 series camera is pretty comparable as I've talked to a guy with an old 1D that already told he's photographing rock festivals for decades. He finally was at the service as the mount button wasn't releasing his lens :)
