That being said you should be able to get some good wide field shots of Orion and Andromeda if you know where to look. Judging by your photo I'd say you're either completely pointing in the wrong direction or the MW set for the night. Get a star chart app to plan when to take photos. I recommend Stellarium for PC/Mac.
