Does /p/ zone focus?

My eyes are fucked and the prospect of not having to focus on a screen/EVF is very tempting, but I'm also a bit anal about getting my photos tack sharp, so I don't know.

Furthermore, whenever someone shows off an example of their "zone focusing" skills it almost always look shit and out of focus. So, how accurate can you actually get with practice?
