I've been thinking of investing into one for vlogging and photography. I'd like to know if it is worth it and could you recommend a good lens for videos, and Photography?

For video not really, for pics I consider it the best option on the market right now. Native lenses, backward compatibility, and af on adapted lenses is best in class.

Sounds a bit pointless to be honest. Even if iq was good enough, I'd only fool with it if I had the lens already. You usually buy system for the lense, but in this case that fact is doubled. Even kit lens is brilliant.

You can’t mount an EF-S lens on a full frame SLR. EF lenses work on crop, but not vice versa.

(You also can’t mount an EF-S lens on a 1D mark anything, d30, d60, 10d, or EOS IX even though those are bodies with various crops)

For vlogging, a far better value-for-money would be something like a Panasonic G85. Slightly smaller/lighter body, WAY smaller/lighter lenses, better weathersealing, unlimited recording time up to the card capacity (vs 29m59s on the EOS R), better mic pre-amp, barely any crop in 4K, and it blows the R out of the water for video quality in both 1080p and 4K.

And frankly, for a vlogger who basically lives via phone apps, it's a perfectly good stills camera for their needs too. The R is certainly better for making huge low-noise prints, but is the average vlogger ever going to post a photo that's not destined for the low-res web?

It looks like Sony is just better at finding the balance in betwee than Nikon.

Nikon boasts more AF points for edge to edge coverage, Sony has fewer, but their strike a nice balance that gets them faster AF speed as well as decent enough coverage, and less stripe artifacts.

Nikon boasts +1 more frame rate, but in practice it's slow at continuous tracking like the Canon. While the A7iii actually pulls off its advertised frame rate.

NO. This camera has gotten shit reviews by literally every reviewer. Like most Canon products, it is about 3-4 years behind the competition and 20% overpriced.

Look into Panasonic or Sony. I recommend Sony. They're leading the pack right now.

Sony is nowhere. They haven't released a proper new cam in years now. A9 is still too expensive, and Nikons and Canons are now the best mid range FF options by large margin. Canons 85mm f1.2 has less light transmission than sony's 85mm f1.4, and it's considerably softer, slower to focus, heavier and more expensive, and it doesn't have ibis.

Pro tip: you will never be able to see an actual difference between the $1500 Zeiss and the $250 Canon in actual real-world pictures (ie, not pictures of brick walls or test charts). You will definitely be able to notice the extra $1250 in in your bank account.

I spent 2 hours with one. It's a relic with a new mount and it was rushed to market. They have room for IBIS but skipped it because 'It wasn't ready'.

The Canon also has a bit more magenta colour fringe.

I think it's a good effort by both companies, especially when you consider The Sony lens is lighter weight.
