Can we expect Nikon to release a Z3000 APS-C camera?

Just imagine how great a entry level Z3000 APS-C camera would be for around 400 usd.

All you have to do then is buy a F mount to Z mount adapter with speedbooster and then you have Full Frame performance for a very low price..

well medium format isn't an exact size like full frame.

it's anything between 35mm and 4x5.

So your answer is yes technically.

Nikon fucked up the Z mount. They should have gone with 60mm diameter instead of 55mm.

Considering it's called the Z mount, I think it would be appropriate if the medium format Z-mount bodies were digital Bronicas

unlikely because:

1) Phones

they killed the compact camera industry, and with improving sensors and multi-camera setups, they are replacing large sensor compacts and even APC DSLR, the latest phone have a wide angle, standard and telephoto setups

2) Profit per client

a $500-800 APS-C camera can give them a couple of hundreds in profit, but a $2000-3000 full frame closer to a thousand

also photographers with entry level camera don't tend to buy many lenses, and are usually lenses under $350

meanwhile most Full frame lenses go for $500+ and dedicated photographers tend to buy a few

So a single full frame user gives them the same profit as a couple of APS C ones, not to mentions due to phones they are many less APS-C buyers

Which is why Sony shifted to full frame and have released just 1 APS-C Lens and 1 Camera with a 3 year old APS-C sensor in the last 3 years

not to mention that Sony Full Frames start at around $1000, so Nikon would have to release a lower priced APS-C, giving them even less profit and having it compete with their own full frames

If you're going to put an xboxhueg mount on your camera you might as well add an extra few mm to really futureproof it. The mamiya rb67 pro sd has a mount diameter of 61mm, that's only an extra 6mm and it would have made the z mount ready for an eventual 6x7 digital camera. Think about it, one mount for APS-C, FF, 645, 6x7 and maybe even 6x8 and 6x9. You could have one lens lineup for all of these formats. For example Nikon could make a 35mm lens, then market it as a 50mm equivalent on DX, standard lens on FX, wide angle on 645 and ultrawide on 6x7. But I bet it makes them more money to fragment their lens lineup.

They shot themselves in the foot with the size of the mount for APS-C, with that mount size the camera has to be bigger too.

Canon shot themselves twice since they also have the EOS M

Don't expect to be able to have FF and a second APS-C body without another enitre set of lenses unless you're going Sony.

Eg; you may want something tiny and not adding much weight for a second body, A5100 is 283g for example.

The RB67 has a huge mount to film distance which only increases with its bellows focussing system, you don't need a mount that big when you move closer to the image plane.
