Is there any reason why I should use a telephoto lens in a city?

I have a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III and I will go to London soon.
I might never leave the city, and will probably just walk around urban street and all that, go to museums, castles, etc.
At this point, I will probably leave it at home and go with the following:
>EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM
>EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM
>EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II (kit lens)

Would /p/ bring the bring lens? Why or why not?

Telephotos are good in cities if you want to emphasize things like crowds (the telephoto compression will make a crowd look more dense). Also just if you want to telephoto-compress things in general, like repeating features in a scene you want to make look closer to each other.

24-70mm and a superlight 70-300mm in my pocket on a fullframe is all I need for walking around.
Compression is fun to work with and wide angle is hard.

I use 35mm and full frame, but the ef 28-135 IS is pretty good for walking around a city, as is any of the 50's and I really like the 40mm pancake also

getting closer to anything that you can't physically get closer to, the same reason you would use one anywhere else. i think they're good to have for architecture when you want to pick out some little feature instead of just shooting a wide angle of the building/sculpture/etc

would highly recommend ditching it for the 55-250. you lose a little reach, but the image quality wide open at the long end is way higher and it's a dirt cheap lens you can find anywhere.

Usually I'd just bring 2 lenses. 3 if stretching it. One prime for lowlight and bokeh, one standard zoom for wide shots. I'm not a tele guy tho. If dragging extra gear weight doesn't concern you and changing lenses in various situations isn't a hassle, then bring it.

The compression is cool. It freezes the subject so well.

In architecture it's different to use wide angle and look up close than to stand further away with telephoto and snap the whole building.
Some people even take landscapes with telephoto because of the unique look.

Kit and the 24/2.8 will do in most cases.

It depends if you use your tele (or wide). Try walking around where you are now with only the lens you are doubtful of on your camera and shoot.
