It's a very interesting camera. It's what's known as a still video camera, meaning the images are stills from a live video. That and they were very popular due to using floppy disks. The computers at that time had built in floppy disk readers which made transferring pictures incredibly easy. They can be found for very cheap and batteries they use have been used in other camcorders and Sony devices. They also boast very large optical/digital zooms. The FD88 zoom reaches 16x. That and they utilize CCD sensors.

It really depends on the model, resolution, and storage medium. My fd200, 640x480, and memory stick, is probably the quickest to save a shot. The write time definitely increases when you use a floppy and shoot at higher resolutions.

good going man, glad you're putting the mavica to good use still, I've been bidding and sending offers for a large format camera/lens kits to no avail, but i'll have one soon. I love that image of the overturned car.
