Not sure whether this goes here or in the gear thread, but I figure the most knowledge about film and accessories is probably here.
My grandmother died recently, and in her house is still a bunch of stuff which used to belong to my grandfather, who died approximately 20 years ago. While cleaning I found a box with all this stuff
inside. My photography knowledge is pretty limited, but this camera looks really cool and I'd love to get it up and running again if possible, to kind of follow in my grandfather's footsteps.
What I think I have down there is:
- One camera body. It says Argus C44 on it, which I did some google searches on for a bit of background info.
- Three (?) lenses. One is an f/2.8 50mm, attached to the camera, the other is an f/4.5 35mm with a lens hood attached, and the third is still inside the original plastic and looks fragile but I saw some writing on it that says "Accura Aux Telephoto", which is confusing because it looks really small for a telephoto lens.
- Some kind of viewfinder thing that fits in the hotshoe at the top of the camera. It has one dial marked "feet" and another marked with 100, 35, and 50, which I think refer to focal lengths.
- A Vivitar exposure meter (with the original receipt my grandfather got when he bought it, which is cool)
- A bunch of assorted flash stuff which I have no idea how to assemble
- A number of what looks like filters inside a case, I didn't take them out for this photo
- The leather carrying strap assembly
I guess my questions are basically:
1. Are there any parts of this that I'm wrong on my interpretation on?
2. Is this a good camera, average, or bad? I've seen varying opinions.
3. Is there any part of what I have now that would require specialized storage or anything?
and 4. What do I need to do in order to get this up and running again? What would have deteriorated over 20+ years and need to be examined/fixed?
Thanks for your help in advance.
