>>3438366>a film leica with a summicron is still cheaper than any new full frame digital with kit lensMaybe, if you insist on a brand new full frame digital but allow a used Leica.
If you look at new Leicas, body only for the M-A or M-P is already $4000+. You can easily get a full frame digital, brand new, with kit lens, for that much.
If we’re allowing used, assuming you’re meaning an M (which is what most people mean when they talk about “a Leica”), the cheapest out there is the CL, which is available for $379 on keh right now. Cheapest summicron 50/2 they have in usable quality is $999, so about $1370 total.
Compare digital, used: you can get a 50/1.8 for about $100 new (much less used), and the remaining $1100 can buy you a used 5D, 5D II, d700, 1Ds II, D600, A7, A900, A850, D3, D610, 6D, 1Ds III, D800, D800E, D750, D3S, DSC-RX1, or 5D Mark iii
Even if you go with the absolute cheapest available used M and a brand new digital full frame, the film Leica only barely wins—the new canon EOS RP is $1300, plus $125 for a 50/1.8 to go with, and that’s barely higher than the CL plus BGN summicron. If you want a *real* Leica instead of the Minolta-designed CL, a bargain basement used M loses to digital hardware only.
And then you have to buy film for the Leica, so the cost argument loses really quickly.
