>>3445594The real problem with readout speed is the severely cropped 4k and lack of 1080 120p. Rolling shutter is poor but it's poor on a lot of cameras and you have to watch for it on just about every camera made (that doesn't have a global shutter).
My point was that I don't think the 4k crop is Canon protecting the cinema line (unlike Sony 8-bit 100 Mbps). I think it's a readout issue, same one which keeps them from AF tracking faster than 5fps on the R. Their C line uses S35 sensors which literally have 4k resolution, so less to read out. Hopefully their next generation sensors are coming soon and will solve the problem because DPAF is god-tier and Canon's color science is brilliant.
I really, REALLY wanted the R to offer FF 4k 30p. As is I'm now looking at the A7 III or the X-T3 for video. (I have the 5Ds for stills and that's god-tier and MF challenging, so no complaints there.) I have a funny feeling I'm going to end up with the X-T3 for video because of:
* Color science
* 4k 60p
* 10-bit 4:2:0 400 Mbps internal
I hate that it's not FF and lacks IBIS but I'm going to end up with a gimbal any way and how do you beat its specs? Fuji nailed it.
