>>3452901That may have been the argument where you were, but the snopes article you linked to says its marked mostly false due to Obama not having involvement in the money going to Brazil. As said in previous comment, it was a Bush team of bankers who created, then approved the loan to Brazil to buy American made equipment. Not Obama, or anyone on Obamas administration.
And as also previously stated, its not like Obama could block the bank deal even if he had wanted, so whats the problem? I would understand if you were solely angry at Obama for stopping American drilling, but you seem more angry at Bush's guys for making money off Brazil and keeping the American oil sector moving. If Obama had used executive power to block the loan then not only would America not be drilling in the Gulf, they wouldnt be selling any drilling equipment in the Gulf either. With the loan there is no drilling, but at least the US oil industry still made money of Brazil drilling.
Politics is a wicker basket, everything is interweaved with everything else. In one hand the US gets to appear environmentally friendly and responsible and condemns the enviromental fallout in the Gulf, but on the other hand they get to shore up the industry that took the biggest hit by outsourcing to Brazil who dont give a fuck about the environment. Its robbing Peter to pay Paul at its finest. If you really wanted to be outraged about the govt being shady in this deal and two-faced, thats what you should be outraged at, not some made-up fantasy that Obama banned American drilling and then suddenly decided to just hand over money to Brazil to do the opposite.
